What happened, what did I miss? I ran into some overboost issues on my 2010 when installed a catted Invidia DP after already running the Cobb Stage 1+ tune with an AEM CAI....

I've got everything all fixed up and running great now, let me know what the deal is, maybe I can help.

i'm not sure of the deal. basically, i can hit boost WOT in 5&6.

if i am in any other gear, i hit basically what seems to be fuel cut or blowing out the spark. from wot down to say 50% throttle.

anything lower throttle than that it's fine..sort of. My thoughts, it needs an ACTUAL tune, or maybe it's blowing out the spark, and i need new plugs. i replaced them before. the ngk iridiums..which i think suck anyways.

In my experience with boost and blowing out spark, I ran a step colder plug than recommended stock (BRK7E coppers vs. BRK6E coppers) and gapped them down to around .0035~.0038. I was able to run 1.5bar on a 3076R with no blowout after that.

What heat range of plug are you running?

Oh wow I've never heard of that... my issues were the result of boost creep and were luckily able to be tuned out with some modifications to the wastegate duty cycle tables. I hope you get this resolved quick!

i'm running stock heat range. but i did get the iridiums. i think they're crap to begin with. and i've heard people say this too.

Not sure how well Subaru motors react to Iridium/Platinum, but in my experience with forced induction, a plain 'ole copper plug seems to do the trick. Sure, you need to change them more often than "every 100K miles", but to me they just feel right compared to those whizbang $20 per plug gimmicks.

Can't beat $2/plug, either

I fully agree. It's like gas. If your car requires premium you best not use regular. On the other hand if it requires regular, not only is premium a waste of money, but it can do harm as well. No need to waste money. One step colder coppers will do the trick I bet.

agreed. i didn't put that together when i bought them. i asked for stock replacement. that's what they gave me. then i went home. and realized.. i dont use iridium in anything.. but eff it. i'm gonna go with one step colder and coppers. we'll see how it works out!

iirc the wrx and sti come with iridium plugs from the factory, unless that’s changed with recent models. I do know the older ones did. Thus why they gave you iridium type for your year. Not sure of the brand Subaru uses though. That’s why they can go for 60k before the first recommended plug change. If they were copper they’d only last around 30k or so.

Most if not all automakers use Platinum or Iridium tipped plugs nowadays, just so they can say "100K miles before you even have to change a spark plug!".

Not sure on what brand Subaru uses either, but I do remember seeing BRK6E-IX somewhere, which would be an iridium tipped NGK BRK6E.

Of course my experience is limited to Nissan forced induction, so who knows? Maybe the combustion chamber differs dramatically and thus you need Iridium tipped plugs for best combustion characteristic?

I'd still rather have an adjustable (gappable) ground electrode so I can adjust for a more complete burn, myself.

thats what i originaly thought.. and then a couple weeks later is when they spray painted and busted the windows..

but what they didnt know is that there were cameras hooked up this time

so $5000 worth of damage later... i have my car back and the investigators have enough evidence to prosecute.

Glad they had cameras and could catch the people that did it. Haters gonna hate!
