The Inside/Cabin Air Filter.
Just got off the phone with Parts and he said $39 for the Cabin Air Filter.... Found this decent thread though on Nasioc about it. Replacing your Cabin Air Filter Apparently <aircabinman> on Ebay sells them for $6-$10 depending on your car. Shipping is $2-$5. So worst case its 15 bucks. How often do you guys change yours? Does Conti check the filter at each, or every other, oil change? When does Conti check the air Filters? The manual says change it every 7,500 or 12 months. I have personally NEVER changed mine and i'pm at 68,000 on my 05. Can't wait to see what it looks like in there. Reason for posting Recently my friend has complained that only when he is in my car, with my air running, his eyes start to get itchy, red, irritated, and watery. So I'm gonna change mine out. Also, the second I turn on or off my A/C I get a nasty mildew/freezer smell.

Man you start a lot of threads LOL
no conti doesn't check them. Its like a spark plug. You gotta put an effort into pulling it out, you may as well put a new one back in. your cabin air filter is behind the glove box under the dash with the blower motor. Not a quick check. Your car might not even have one. They became standard equipment in about 2006-7. Selected models had it prior but it was available as a kit for all older models. |

You also have a newer car...
I have a feeling replacing mine would make a huge difference. I'll do my research. |

I replace mine every year, it literally takes a couple minutes but like Phill said you might as well replace it, no use in looking at it, if it has been in there for any lenght of time it will be pretty dirty. After only one year, there is quite a bit of crap in mine, including bees, think about all the dust that gets kicked up on the road, it all goes into your air system.
I also thought it was weird that it is so much more then the air filter for the motor though, it is way smaller and there is way less material used in it, it really is a cheap ass filter ![]() I'm going to get mine off ebay now, didn't know you could get them so cheap. I am also going to check walmart, some one posted in the thread you link that they found a HEPA filter that was the same size that works. Last edited by Alaskan_awd; 07-09-2009 at 09:14 PM. |

Your friend is probably just affected by how the A/C is drying the air out. If you have the filter change it of course, but I'm betting he'll still be affected just the same.

best thing to do is go to walmart and get one you put in home air vents for 20 bucks or so and cut to fit, then you have 4 for 5 bucks each.

Yah, the cut to fit is a great way to go, I use a cut down washable furnace filter in mine.

I replaced mine in the STi before I sold it and just had Conti replace the Forester's today. Subaru had their little flier about why their filters were better than knock-off brands, AND they provided pictures (woohoo!), so I went with the genuine Subaru cabin filter.
I don't mind paying for quality and will usually only take shortcuts when the off-brand has bragging rights. |

Already ordered 2 from Ebay, so Thats what I'm going to use, figured I'd ask you what they said. I know I have one, I have the yellow sticker. I could have sworn it was changed once also. Seems odd that they would neglect to put them in but have the housing/place for the filter. If $40 is going to make or break a profit on a car, they need to re-think selling cars. |
