V8 season 2012: AUTCC?

Or even, dare I say it, AUSCAR?

Rumor has it that rule modifications for the 2012 season of Australian V8 Supercars will make them any-makes so long as the car has a V8 engine and costs under AU$250K. Audi, Nissan, or even as the article suggests, Hyundai, anyone??

Former driver Mark Skaife is spearheading a committee to determine what a V8 supercar will look like when the 2012 season rolls along. Basically, he's been told the new car will have a V8 engine and needs to cost under $250,000. Everything else is open to discussion.
So what does this mean for V8 Supercars fans?
For one thing, there's a high chance the days of Holden versus Ford at least as we know it are over.
(I)t's a grim reality that Holden and Ford can't support every team any more. This year, only five teams have support from either Holden or Ford, meaning there are 10 other teams with no factory backing.
We need to bridge that gap and that's what Skaife and his crew have been assigned to do.
This is going to be biggest overhaul the championship's seen and it's extremely important they get it right.
What is right? I don't really know yet. While the exterior of each car will look different from manufacturer to manufacturer, underneath I'd like to see identical equipment used.
The last thing we want to see is one manufacturer spending $200,000 on their car while another can only splash out $20,000.
The same specifications for every team will ensure the championship remains competitive.
