Question Wheel gurus help me out

I'm in the process of building a 98 L with a HT Autos 22B kit on it and I'm not sure what to go with for wheels. I'd like something in the 17x9 size I dont want 18s and if I could go wider I'd like to do that. As far as my question what size rim/offset should I go with go with to fill up my wheel wells so I have a nice flush fit?

Give up the idea of flush fit and just run proper offset wheels and tires.

The OEM 22B wheels were 17x8.5 (unsure of offset) with 235/40's. They didn't sit 'flush' though.
