and i don't know why, it just seemed to start doin it, it's leaking out of a seal in the front of the engine, where that big plate attaches..., i'm not good w/ part names, but it's the plate in the front, and it has holes where the pulleys are mounted too
anyway it seems to be leaking all along the bottom edge, and also along the point where the oil pan is mounted to the engine....

hm, try posting this(or mods, please move it) in Normally Aspirated... it could be much better answered there.
Sounds like a... seal. Yeah, I'm useless. Anyway, not much of a big deal(unless this is a gyser you've got)... take it to a dealer, get a new gasket/seal put on... shouldn't be any big thing. |

i once again object to a general question i have about my car being moved to the NA forum
this is not a problem caused by the car's aspiration the fact that my car is NA is completely irrelevant to what is causing the problem or how to fix it it is a general subaru engine question this problem was not cause by, or could've been prevented in any way by the engine being NA |

It's your crank seal, 99% sure. How many mile you got on your car? Over 60K? Then it's probably your crank seal. Might want to get your timing belt replaced at the same time. That metal cover is the timing belt cover and they have to remove the timing belt to get to the seal anyway.

Mine is leaking, but slowly, and I only have 65K miles on it. I'm going to get it fixed soon. From what I've heard, Subaru crank seals will always start to leak, some just earlier than others. You can probably wait a while if it's not leaking much. That is, less than a quart a month. Then you can maybe get closer to the 90K recommended miles for changing your timing belt.
Good Luck! |

I had mine leaking oil not too long ago. It was leaking so bad that I was losing about 1/5 every day I drove. Everytime I stop at a light the smoke would come out bad under the hood and the smell was unbearable. I thought it was the crank seal also, but when I took it in, it turned out that the oil drain plug seal broke and it popped out. It was wierd cuz the front of the oil pan was dry, but rest of the engine was completely drenched, including the front axle.
Considering that your car is over 76k it might as well be the crank seal. But check the oil drain plug seal first just to make sure. |
