Default WRC back on US TV

The World Rally Championship's promoters have struck a deal to screen the category in the United States.

In what's been seen as a vital move to re-establish the sport in one of the world's key car markets, the WRC promoter International Sportsworld Communicators (ISC) has secured a deal with Discovery Communication channel HD Theater, which has a total audience of 633 million.

ISC CEO said: "This is tremendous news for the championship and our fans in the United States. It's a ground-breaking deal which means the WRC has a high-profile broadcast presence in the US. We’re looking forward to taking the WRC to an ever-widening audience in the significant US market."

Long has previously stated that it remains one of ISC's aims to return a World Rally Championship event to America. The series hasn't included a State-side round since Miki Biasion won the Olympus Rally in 1988.
Commence the fanboys reaction.

Actually, they've been doing a lot of racing. And since it's "theater" all their stuff is prerecorded anyways...perfect fit for WRC coverage.

Lets see, premium cable subscription + HD cable subscription upgrade + HD TV to be able to broadcast = cheaper to travel to Europe to watch in person : P

its NOT Discovery Channel HD. HD Theatre is a separate channel, and as said previously they do a lot of automotive based shows.

This is major major!

Doesn't look like any Canadian TV providers do HD Theater.

I don't think you're getting screwed at all, people have to pay extra to watch most racing anyways, its not like there was a chance of it being on ABC or Fox.

you guys should check out optoma projectors.

u can get a hdxx projector plus a 110" screen for less than $1000.

I have a 47" LCD HD in my room and an optoma dv11 (not even real hd) and you cant tell the difference.

and the tv cost more and is half the size.

everyone that comes over is shocked when i tell them how cheap they are.
