I need some insight on wheel bearings...
Searching on the subject I found some info, but not a whole lot, and not much on my year wrx.
Ive come to the conclusion of, well nothing really. I've found poeple saying its taken them from 45 minutes to 4 hours to complete, and also its not something a rookie should attempt... My front driver side wheel is making a noise that sounds like a flat tire, but the tire is fine, which leads me to the assumption that it is most likely the wheel bearing, but like I said, I don't know alot about wheel bearings and diagnosing them. So now, I ask the guys at NASIOC for some advice. 2006 WRX TR Stage 2 w/ 63k miles...

sometimes even the tires will make that noise.
IF you have an other set of tires try do that too and see if it disappears. |

So after rotating the tires the noise has moved to the rear, meaning that something is wrong with the wheel/tire? What should I do next?

your alignment is bad
get the toe set to '0' the noise is there to stay until you buy new tires....but it is alignment related and will only get worse until your alignment is fixed |

Wow, youve been a tech since 1986 and have the stupidity to say this without seeing the car? Im glad you are not my tech, you must be one of the least educated, and most opinionated and often wrong people I have ever seen post on a forum. To the original poster, does the tire appear to have toe wear (gee scotty maybe you should have asked this first?) if not then take the car to where you purchased the tires and complain, if it does how bad is it?

these kinds of issues are quite common with these vehicles and in most cases, when the noise moves when the tires are moved....it is a tire issue caused by an alignment issue and the most common issue that will cause this is toe certainly, there are other possibilities....but, for the most part the irregular wear that a toe issue causes makes tires noisy even before it is visually apparent that there is a wear issue and the information that is given and inferred, leads me to think that I'm right and since joining in 2003 you have posted 15 times and one of these was to TRY to slam me go troll some other board Last edited by Uncle Scotty; 09-15-2009 at 07:52 PM. |

My 2003 cups every brand of 17" tire I have tried. That may be your noise.
It is not alignment or struts on my car (changed checked). |
