Default So I test drove that 93 Mustang GT, and I need some help deciding

Well I just drove it tonight for a few miles.

Positives:

1 - Transmission shifts great. Spec Z Transmission bought new.
2 - Engine seems to be solid and clutch engages high. King Cobra clutch.
3 - Throaty exhaust ()
4 - Drilled and slotted rotors. Rear drums
5 - Nice radio and Infinity speakers.
6 - Car turned heads EVERYWHERE we drove. I actually pulled up to a blue WRX hehe.

Negatives:

1 - Three dents on the roof (side above the door)
2 - Two Dents on the front of the hood. He has another hood but it is red.
3 - Tear in the bumper. He has another bumper but it doesn't have Mustang GT written on it.
4 - Water gets stuck in a certain part of the hood and you need to remove the weather stripping to drain it. This may be every time it rains or only sometimes, not sure.
5 - Rear suspension makes noises. He went to mustang magic and they told him it needed to be greased. He also told me aftermarket suspension will always make noises, that was what he was told. Can someone clear that up?
6 - NO AIR CONDITIONING. This would cost me around $400 for the kit.
7 - The exhaust is cutoff at the rear axle, otherwise known as exhaust dumps. This made the cabin of the car smell of exhaust. I do NOT want that and would probably have to buy and exhaust that exits in the rear by the bumper.
8 - One fog light does not work, but he is going to included another bulb.
9 - The seat is slanted because something is broken in it and needs to be welded. Other owner put racing seats in and supposedly welded them to the seat tracks and now the tracks are f***ed up.
10 - Thanks to the exhaust, it probably will not pass inspection. I doubt it has cats.

Should I buy the car and fix er up? Or keep saving my money, get another job and buy something newer with a car loan?

well, it really just depends if you wanna fix this stuff. i mean, it's not huge stuff, but you'd have to do it is all. if you have time and feel like fixing/painting/exhausting then go for it. judt work and more $$$ is all. good luck.

Depends on where they are and how they're shaped. That's usually the telltale sign. With all the mods it would not surprise me.

How much is the guy asking?

$2900. from like $3700. I was going to offer 2500 if I decided to buy it. Parents do not want me to though

Buy an 89. Then I can sell you my FSM and two other Mustang related books.

And if you buy one, make sure you've got plenty of life insurance. Need to cover your final expenses plus something for the families of the people you kill.

Yeah, I think you should get something Volvo 240ish as your first car. That way, when you go careening off the road all you'll do is damage the trees.

I happen to have an AC compressor and everything inside the dash for AC... but I think the condensor went to the scrap yard a while ago.

I also have a Sparco Torino with hobbled together mustang mounts. It will slide, but not well.

I think I only have one tailpipe though.

If you do buy it, let me know if you want the AC stuff.

Leave it.

If you are set on buying one ONLY buy one that is completely stock. Any car that's been modded has been beaten and abused and you'll piss away your remaining pennies fixing what the idiot previous owner screwed up.

I think you are right - I'm just going to leave it. I am eager to get my first car, and I think that is really clouding my judgment.

I'm trying to think with my head and not my heart, not as easy as it seems.

Believe me, I've been there. And spent MANY hours and too much money repairing my old MKII GTi which I ought to have left on the lot. But damn I loved that car.

You can get MR2 for that money. A lot more fun and the ones without turbo have Camry motors in them so they are hella reliable.

P.S Was the right use of 'hella'?

I have more fun in my '97 Impreza than I ever did in my 350hp '86 Fiero. For a first car, a beater is always the better choice.
