Default Clear coat on rims peeling at 900 miles??

I have a brand new WRX I just picked up last month.

Yesterday, I was washing my car, when I noticed that on my rear driver's side wheel, the rim seems to be peeling at the edge, right where it meets the tire.

I started looking at all my other wheels and noticed that 3 out of 4 of them, have a blue dot of paint on them.

Is that blue dot on the rim? Or is it on some type of film that comes on the wheels of new cars?

I know that before the dealership prepped my car, the wheels did have a perfectly visible, clear plastic covering them, but it was obviously removed.

Do stock rims come with a plastic coating that is not visible unless it starts to peel? Or can it be that the clear coat on my wheels has already gone bad?

Any info would be great. Thanks.

Have the dealership look @ it first because your car is still under warranty.

Already gave them a call. They told me its normal and just to let it peel off on its own.

So basically, Im supposed to let it look like ****, like a snake shedding it's skin, until its all gone?

I just hung up on them. When I go in for my first oil change, I'll have them look at it.

Was just wondering if anyone on here could give me some advice/info.

are they implying by that statement that there is still some film on the wheel? Take it to another dealer.

Is this Auto Network in Jamaica btw? I had one of my cars (not subaru) serviced there before for warranty work relating to the wheel.

Thats exactly what they're saying...they specifically said that its a protective film thats on the wheels to protect it while its on the truck being transported.

This is Metric Subaru in Huntington NY.

Default Same Peeling Problem

Hey what's up,

Although I don't have stock rims I'm noticing the same sort of problem as you. I've got some ADR Cypher rims, that have a sort of "chrome" edging. Anyways, there seems to be a sort of clear film over the chrome that is peeling off all over the place. It doesn't come off easy, not with a fingernail for instance, but I tested a little chrome cleaner on it and it seemed to take it off well.

I haven't done much because I don't want to ruin the wheels or something, but it looks like it could be removed and the chrome would be fine..

Post some pictures of yours, i'll try to get mine up here too.

I had the same blue dots on them when I first got my rex... After a few washes and wiping down of the wheels, it came off... I don't remember if there was any type of protective film on them though...
