Question Check Engine Reset Question

03 WRX
I had a gas cap code come up and was wondering if once fixed it would go away after several drive cycles or do I need to manually reset it by unhooking the battery and draining the power?
thanks

It should go away after 2-3 engine cycles (turn on, turn offs) assuming that the CEL signal is not getting resent during these cycles.

Resetting the ECU I don't think will clear a CEL. You can buy a cheap harbor freight OBDII scanner than can clear codes for you.

If it was a leak code, after it runs the EVAP test twice with no issues it should turn off. EVAP monitor test is only done under certain driving conditions, ie steady highway speeds on flat ground for about 2 - 10 minutes.

If you are sure its fixed just unhook the battery for about 5 minutes.

It came on when I had the cruise control on. I don't know why since I just had emissions done in June and it was ok. I'll put my cruise back on and see if that works. Maybe I didn't fix it yet.
