Default New to AKIC

Hello I was born and raised in Anchorage, but have been stationed elsewhere for the last 4 years. I am moving back soon and am excited to get involved in the motorsports scene upon my triumphant return. I have spent the last 4 years in the Marines with my 2005 STi accompanying me on my travels all over the US.
I am deployed at the moment and will be in AK for a short time in August before re-deploying once more, then I will be back in AK for good. I am in the process of getting a good tune on the East Coast where people have AWD dynos before coming home.
I have spent most of my time on iwsti.com however their AK representation is abyssmal. You guys seem to have things very well organized and I am excited to get to know everyone!
Cheers,
Keeter17

I sadly will not have my car until I am done with my contract and can drive it back up to AK when I move. My dad has WRB 08 STi which i may be rockin for a week while I am up there if I'm lucky. I probably won't be up there until just after those two events are over. Anyone ever go to the independant shop down the street from continental? Used to be AAA-1 The Shop but they have had some name change issues. I used to work there years ago. Thanks for the welcome guys!

Don't know anything about them, except they've grown up from the little shack they used to be when I was a kid!

Wow, I didn't know they have a website. 07_BlueRex, I see that you have an 84 Buick Grand National that is quite a gem. I friend of mine has one in Anchorage. Nice ride.

Thanks, it is quite an attention grabber, everywhere I go people ask about it. Had some kid run in to the Subway when my buddy and I were getting some sandwiches and he told me he loved my car, "just like Fast and Furious!" he then said, or something to that effect... Which made me sad.

Is your friend in Anchorage the one who used to drive his year round? I can remember seeing one only maybe 5 years ago before I had mine. You'd see him out pretty much any day of the year. I can't even imagine trying to drive mine in winter.

nope, it's AAA-1 the Shop. Kurt and his wife are good people. I've known them for a long time. They specialize in the older Subarus not so much the newer since they aren't trained or certified on the newer turbo models. But still good people. Obviously, I take my car to Conti for the most part, or at least consult with the techs and Subie gods.

I worked there right when SOA was making them change their name. I remember voting for AAA-1 The Shop... Nobody thought it would win but it did.

Welcome Keeter-

when you get up here you'll find theres several motorsports venues.

Good thinking on getting tuned down there, seems to be an issue for most people living up here (those that don't do their own street tuning).

Thanks for your service in the Marines, we'll see you up here!!

Thanks for all the support guys. By the way, I have been trying to look online and it doesn't seem like anybody in AK sells E85. Is that correct?

While it does reduce your mileage, I have been seeing lots of good results power wise. All you need is bigger injectors, a tune, and viola! MOAR POWER! Also I have read that it is actually cheaper to the point where the cost/fuel economy ratio balances out. But if I understand correctly you can really crank up the boost without worry of detonation. Guess I can rule that route out since they don't sell it in the great state.
