Default Alternator problem?

Last night i had trouble starting my car. Voltage on the batter was fine but everytime i tried to crank it, it was like the "juice" would get zapped. Lights would be on, but as soon as i cranked it, the car wouldn't turn over and the interior lights would be dim.

Let it sit for awhile and the battery would charge up back up to 12.5v.

Got the car jumped and drove it home a few blocks before it just died on me. Going to get the alternator checked but wondering if it could be anything else.

A few months ago i had this problem with the battery which is now not more than a few months old

Do an alternator test, use a DMM, read the voltage on the battery terminal and see what kind of voltage you are getting while the car is running and let me know.

Took alternator out and had it tested. It tested ok. Installed a new one anyways.

The problem was you couldn't even get the car started. When it was jumped it died within a few minutes.

When it was jumped, the voltage was fluctuating all over the place 12 to 14v.

Guess nobody has had a problem with a burnt ignition? The place i took it to had the take apart the steering column.
