Default Lexus to unveil the Bmw 1-Series rival at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show

Quote:
A Lexus five-door compact hatchback will be launched at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show! There has been no official confirmation from Lexus yet. However, we found out that the concept is a close match to the car that Lexus will be offering up against BMW’s 1-series and Audi’s A3 in 2010.

If rumors are to be believed, the car was planned late last year due to European executives who pointed out that the Europe’s premium C-segment was very lucrative. The car’s name will supposedly have both “BS” and “CS” in the frame. Sources say that like the Lexus RX SUV, the car will be a petrol-electric hybrid-only model and will likely use a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine that, with the help of an electric motor, produces 187 hp.

This engine is the same powertrain as the US-market-only HS250h. Similar to the HS, the car will be front-wheel drive, but it won’t have the same platform as the HS. Don’t forget about the LF-A Supercar, which will also make its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show!

How isn't it? Acura is a Bentley and Maybach fighter, so why can't this be a 1-series fighter?

In Europe (where this new Lexus is going to be sold), the 1-series is most commonly sold in the 5-door/4-cylinder configuration. As long as the Lexus is comparable in size, amenities, and price it will be viable competion for the 1-series and the many other premium 5-door Euro models. As far as RWD goes, I believe the 1-series is the ONLY car in that segment with it (most are FWD with a few AWD).

Yep, this is not competing against the 1 series that is sold in the states, but all the ugly 1 series econoboxes over here. If anyone is really curious, just go to bmw.co.uk and do a search. The cars are really not that good looking in person.

Curious to see how this Lexus looks in real life.

Hate to say it but the PT cruiser is just too ugly to be compared against. I would have to say it looks like a Golf mated with a Mazda3.

1. Toyota has a new potent, efficient 2.5L I4. Why aren't they using it? Should take the time to do it right.

2. Why does this exist when the HS is here?

3. Isn't it interesting that Lexus is going all hybrid and diesel in Europe? Can't get the RX in petrol form in the UK.

Default Upcoming Lexus small car gets a name: CT 200h

Quote:
According to the latest reports, it appears the upcoming BMW 1 Series rival will carry the CT badge and it will be offered in three versions: CT 200h, CT 300h and CT 400h. The name is explained in this way: ‘C’ stands for compact while ‘T’ for tourer, so we will have a Lexus compact tourer. The debut is rumored to be made at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show, under the ‘LF-T’ where L-Finesse is the brand’s design language. According to the same sources, Lexus has recently registered the aforementioned titles so expect to see the CT badge by 2010!

Even in america, where people regularly buy SUVs when they need wagons, buy turbo subarus in automatic, and don't know that saturn is GM and lexus is toyota, do you think most non-car people would even know that one is RWD and the other is FWD?

People try to pit non-competing cars against each other simply due to exterior dimensions, wheel count, door count and bed-no-bed all the time.

Jesus, at least put some tiny pitiful electric motor on the back and call it an AWD if you want to compete with BMW ...
