Thumbs down My car is still in the shop - do I have a NESIC record yet?

22 days today with no end in sight! not that i am counting. the transmission has been apart at least 6 times by my count.
the deal is they thought they fixed the problem by replacing 5th gear. but when i picked it up reverse still didnt work and 5th was sticking. they then took it apart and ordered a reverse gear, which made it better but not 100%. so after many calls to subaru and more work, they have finally decided that its a reverse slider part that is worn. problem is there are none in the country so they have filled out a special form to have subaru get it here asap. hopefully that will solve the problem. the subaru tech has 17 years experience btw.
warranties rule.

I think Bredan has it (Scobbed0). His car was at the dealer for a few months (I think) with a blown tranny.

if you buy a car form a dealer, and it goes in more than 3 times with the original problem still not being resolved, ytou may consent the Lemon law. the car has to be taken back and a new one given to you in its place, or a full refund with absolutly NO depreciation of the cars value

I'm not oficially NESIC (CT native, Philly resident), but you won't beat my record. My car went in the weekend before Thanksgiving and came out last week. Over 4 months for a stock engine swap due to a cracked block. I hope you don't come anywhere close to that!

Not even close!!!! 17 weeks for a new tranny for my 96 SVX. I couldn't believe how long it took. They said that they had to ship it from Japan, but what did they ship it on a raft? I hope you get your car back soon.

Well good grief Kris, if you learned how to drive, then you shouldn't have problems, especially with reverse and 5th. I mean those gears are never used for performance driving. GO TAKE SOME DRIVING LESSONS!!! just kidding

still no car... SOA says their vendor in japan is making the part they need and it will be ready at the beginning of may. then shipping + customs then install and then hoping that was the problem.
SOA has said they are going to do something for me... what should i ask for if they ask me what i want? seriously.

I think they should pay for the car payments for the months that your car has been unavailable, plus any expenses incurred for rental transportation if any. That seems fair to me... seems rather ridiculous to have a shortage of replacement parts for a < 5 year old car!

Ask to be first on the STi waiting list. You'll still have a couple of years to save up... or, ask them to buy your car back at original list and get yourself a WRX (if you don't have one). I don't know. They'll probably give you a free decal or something...

Edwin is on the right track with the car payments, and I would call your insurance company and see if you can stop it (if the car is insured under the dealership now because it is sitting there.

The keep it and give me a good deal on a WRX is not a bad idea either. I would not want my car back if they keep "trying to fix" the problem in my transmission.
How good can it be for a part of the car that just hates dirt to be open 6 times, and to have them put this in and see, and take it apart and try this then.. blah blah blah..

They don't do open heart surgery 6 times to see if it works.

Oh good grief Kris, would ya stop complaining about not having your car. If you would only learn to drive it, it wouldn't break so bad. Good grief man, you broke pieces that even subaru can't beak. I mean you must really suck at driving or something. just kidding, at least your not paying for it.
See ya
