Default P0519 code 2004 Impreza Outback Sport

CEL light on, pulled code at Auto Zone (Actron 9145 OBDII device), says P0519. CEL will come on once every two weeks or less, same code, once light comes on while driving the engine will die (softly) the very next time I come to a stop or push in the clutch pedal (on returning to idle, I assume). It only dies that one time, I can re-start, and drive, and light might stay on for the rest of the day, but won't die again. I've seen the sticky, and the IAC cleaning instructions - but I DON'T have the turbo, just the regular aspirated 2.5. No other drivability or idle issues. Dealer said ok to continue driving as long as CEL is not flashing. Mine is just steady. Any help appreciated.

BTW...why isn't the PCV valve listed anywhere in the maintenance schedule?

Bump. My car has the same problem. I cleaned the IAC and went as far as to swap the entire throttle body and solenoid and the problem stays with my car. It only seems to come on when I am going down a long hill with the car in gear clutch out and applying the brake. If I push in the clutch or take the car out of gear there is no check engine light.

Please help

Check the mail relay behind the glove box. Brown 6 pole connector. start the car and tap on the relay and see if the car acts up.

Yep - my situation exactly. Just happened today again, while going downhill. I haven't had it all summer long, but now it is back.

"Mail" relay? Why would it be called that?

Now I'm beginning to wonder if this is related to wet driving conditions - and a short somewhere.....besides IAC, TPS, etc.

Bringin' this one back!!

Same issues here with my wifes 03 Outback Sport. I've replaced the Idle Air Control Valve (Still Get the cell) so went back to the old one and cleaned it up with brake clean and it seems to be working. I've heard that it could be an issue with a vaccuum leak but how you find that I have no idea.

More than likely it is a very small vacuum leak. Have the engine smoke tested. It is an annoying code that is a pain in the neck to find the solution for sometimes. Basiclly the failsafe kicks in and temporarily kills the fuel to cylinder 1 and 2. Also check that there isnt any slop in the accelerator cable. And of course the obvious is debris in the bypass circuit.

Bringing it back. I got this one this morning. I downshifted to 4th at about 50mph to coast down to a stoplight and the light came on. Car continued to run normally all the way to work. Guess I'll just reset the light and see if it comes back.

Me too! I cleaned my idle air control valve three times and can't fix the problem.

Mine cold starts and idles around 1750 then when it kicks down to the "slow" idle it ends up around 1300-1400. It throws the code p0519 when it kicks down. Then if you let it idle long enough, it creeps up to near 2k. When it kicks down it becomes rough almost feeling like a bad misfire-very chopppy if you press the accelerator. Car is pretty much undriveable. The code reader always shows the same code twice-not sure why? I wonder if its worth replacing the iacv- the dealership said they have only replaced one ever, but do clean them sometimes.

Oh yeah, mine is an 03 wrx with a 2.5 block and custom tune.

Default dirty air filter?

over the course of 90k miles, have had the CEL come on many times, everytime it was the 519 - idle control....

in each case, the air filter had nearly 10k, replacing it made the CEL go away

i now replace the air filter every 5k as part of my regular tune up - havent seen a CEL since

a faulty neutral switch seems to be the common cause of these IAC codes when no other failure can be found. I know the manual mentions nothing about it in reference to this code.

they dont mention it because only automatics have the switch..i believe.. im going through this same problem also.. got a new transmission and it sat for a bit. went to get it....drove it and threw the P0519 code mine acually showed it twice also. one said pending.. but i heard this was because of a bad IAC, so like stated i tried to clean it and been driving it for 2 days and still does the same thing. idles at 2k then the cel comes on then it drops to 1.4k-1.5k but sometimes goes back to 2k. so thinking about just buying a new IAC if i need to because cleaning didnt work. please let me know. i also had it idle, popped the hood and unpluged the sensor and nothing happening when i unplugged it or put it back on!!

Default P0519 Cel

Had My 04 Impreza Outback To Garage Today........Mechanic Said Code Was Likely Neutral Switch. (it Is Manual Trans) Is This A Reasonable Diagnosis?

Manual trans cars have a neutral switch its on the left rear of the transmission next to the back up light switch.

The diag for the code never mentions a neautral switch as possible problem but it does seam to fix these types of codes alot.

I'm faced with this exact issue. I used to have high idle in hot and high traffic conditions, sometimes the idle would go up past 3000 RPM and sometimes when i came to a stop the car would bog down. I changed the IAC to another used IAC that i cleaned (which I'm pretty sure worked fine in the previous car, but it has been sitting for a year and a half unused). The high idle issue appears to be gone, but the car will still bog down once or twice after coasting and comming to a stop. I will keep on the throttle during that time and the issue goes away and I can drive fine. I do get the P0519 CEL just before it bogs down. What are the chances of 2 bad IACs lol (could be high i guess heh) Anyone have any more stories on how else they have resolved their p0519 issue (besides changing/cleaning IAC)?
