Default Dom at Maxwell Power Recommendations? If not who to have do a tune?

Trying to help a friend find where to get their tune done closer to Seattle. So basically looking for a shop that would be equal to/on par with Tim Bailey from Surgeline in the greater Seattle area.

I've seen people give props to Dom from Maxwell Power while trolling threads but wanted to start a thread on the topic rather than just go off previous comments made in passing.

Can people please let us know what shop in the Seattle area you would go to for your custom tune? If you'd say Dom can you help a brother out and say why? Just trying to get as much information together as possible to make a good decision.

Thanks so much in advance to all who provide input here.

This has been covered in a lot if threads. You also said you have read these threads,
so why did you start a new one? There is also the local shops thread that can be found in the sticky thread. That should tell you some other options.

I have had Tim Bailey tune my car up here- well tacoma @PIA, and prior to his arrangement at PIA, once at Kito.

I love all the tunes Tim has done for me! The trip down to PIA or Surgeline would be worth it!

Of course, if Tacoma (or Portland) is too far away, then farther up North we have Kito Autosport in Ballard and they are very good and have an awesome dyno- it reads LOWer than most and truely is a heartbreaker. Then there is a shop in redmond that tunes, another awd dyno in kirkland (carb connection, but they don't tune open source or COBB as far as I know (I think just AEM and MoTeC for subies), and finally up North, our newest dyno in the PNW is Dom's- who I've heard good things and he does open source tunes.

In short,
Tim bailey in Portland or Tacoma at PIA
Kito in Seattle/Ballard
Dom in Arlington or up North

And 555 motorsports is coming to town too to tune at PIA.

Thanks guys, this information is for me. Tim at PIA was my choice, is just that Tim only visits PIA like once a month. My other choice would preferably have Dyno-tuning like the guys from PIA do. I know Sleeper in Seattle has suggested Kito but the dyno reading doesn't sound too appealing I guess.. does PNW have a dyno?
Does anyone have experience doing a custom tuning at VTR?

What type of engine management?

If AccessPort, you NEED to have Tim Bailey tune it.

If OpenSource, you go to Dom (north), Kito (seattle), or Matt (when he comes into town from Chicago) at 555motorsports...he tunes at PIA in tacoma.

those are the only names you need to look at.

Our custom tunes are done by Dom @ MPS. We highly recommend him.

Dom at maxwell hands down.
He tunes opensource, and i know hes working with the accessport now, and i know he has expirience with the hydra aswell.
He built my motor for me an has tuned my car countless times for all the new mods i do, lets put it this way; i wouldnt let ANY other tuner touch my car.

IMO, its a no brainer.
Oh ya and they just got a brand new dyno. check it out its sick!

Maxwell Power FTW. Great facility, very knowledgeable and cool staff, and great tunes. I havn't been tuned by anyone else, so I can't comment on that.

Hands down Dom. I'm sure everyone is very good at what they do, but Dom is very accessible, will tell you whatever you want to know, will do some crazy stuff to stand behind the work he does, and is a hell of a cool guy to just hang with on top of that.

He got 303/340 out of my dead stock '08 STI on the new dyno.

Go to whoever is closer and cheaper.
Heard bad things about someone, don't go to them.
Tuning with hydra, go to someone with experience in tuning hydra.

It's not that difficult.

Best bet is to go to someone reputable who has tuned a similar setup before

Had my car tuned by Dom and I love it. We have quite a few good tuners in the NW, and for the most part you can't go wrong.

Im the same way, he is putting in a LSD, clutch and flywheel for me and I agree with Moosecakes, no one will touch my car other than Dom. He is the type of person who knows a ***** load about everything as opposed to being a specialist with certain aspects of a car. Get a Dom Tune!!!

If it is an AccessPort then you MUST go have Tim Bailey tune it. If it was an opensource tune, then Dom would be a good option, but Dr. Tim Bailey is the ONLY one you should EVER have touch your accessport. He comes up and tunes at PIA in Tacoma once a month or so too.

I am a hater because I didn't search the threads and tell him what to do. I told him to do his own homework and make his own decision. Like I said there are a ton of threads about this already.

I don't totally agree that there is not a best tuner. But there are a lot of very good tuners in the NW area so you should be able to find someone close and be able to get a good tune.

Well, if Eliot Bay is the geographical center, then PIA is still closer to your friend than MPS. Really depends on where in Seattle you're talking about. On the other hand, for the money and passion involved, it's always worth driving a few extra miles to get the job done right.

Personally, I count as one of Dr Bailey's fanboi's; but I've only ever heard good things about Dom. And 555 is coming to PIA for another tuning session and is every bit as respected as Tim and Dom.

Have your friend toss a three-sided coin and call it a day

Dom tuned my FXT with AccessPort, runs great. No software issue, everything went smoothly and he look dang proficient with the tuning software that's for sure. Dom treat my car like his own, that's all I am going to say. Dom loves Subarus.

I went to Dyno Authority first, but Tim spent 2 hours trying to download program for a 07 Forester and on the phone with Cobbs. Ended up with some mechnical issues and call it a day because it got too late. I still have to pay a couple hundreds minus the wait though.
