Default Engine ticking until very warm....

Hi,
i have an 03' n/a Baja with 101,000 miles on it. When I start it cold it ticks at idle for a while. Then after it warms up under acceleration it has a fairly loud ticking that only goes away after driving it for 10 min or so until it is very warm.

It runs great and does not use any oil. It has done this since I have owned it which has been 20,000 miles ago. I thought now that the weather is warmer it would stop doing it but it doesn't matter, it ticks until driven for a while.

Does this sound like a valve clearance problem or maybe piston slap? Is there anything that can be done to stop this?
I love the Baja but it is embarrassing when I take someone with me and it ticks away.

I use synthetic oil and napa gold filters.

Thanks

Sounds like the fuel injectors...talk to your Subaru dealer, they might need to be replaced or cleaned.

Most likely it is piston slap. Mine started at 24000 miles, had the pistons replaced and it started again at about 35000 miles. It is very annoying and noticeable, supposedly it doent effect the life of the engine Contrary to what many say, all Subaru's don't have this sound, and in my opinion shouldn't. A well designed engine shouldn't sound like it has a rod knock when it is cold.
