I just got my notice yesterday and called to make an appointment this morning. Oh well, it's supposed to be a quick and easy fix. They're giving me a loaner car while I wait so I can get a few things done while they are working on my car.

I would call the service department at your local Subaru dealership and ask.

Why? Does he know what to look for? Just take it in as it is a recall and free for you. Otherwise you will keep getting notices possibly or if something happens, it falls on you and not SOA because they did their part in notifying you.

SOB I didn't even think of this.

I called to make my appointment today (cause I also need a state inspection).

He said "the fuel tank needs to be at 1/4 or LESS" - which makes perfect sense why they want it that way.

Thing is I FILLED IT UP YESTERDAY MORNING and the rate I drive it will be a week or two before I have it that low.

NUTZ

Mentioning it in case you guys want to consider that before making your appointments!

I'm sure some shops will just deal with it, but I can see how it would be a PIA and I'd want to deliver it to them with as little fuel in it as possible for that reason anyway.

I won't touch them unless they are below 1/4 tank. I tell the customers that as well. Plus it will benefit the customer as well.

I'm glad you said something, because my dealership service dept. did'nt! The mechanic was quite happy....I had around an eigth of a tank and I removed the back seat before a brought it in for the recall.

SOB - so I drove it all freakin' weekend - used about a weeks worth of gas going out of my way to get it down to just about the point where the low fuel light would go on.

Then I show up at the dealership to drop it off and the service writer says "we don't have the parts and the district rep is saying we won't have em for 7-10 days"

I left it with em anyway - said "screw it, I'll ride my Moto Guzzis until you fix it"

That said, while we were there, we took the opportunity to test drive a new Outback - VERY NICE!

My Bad! The letter stated that "it would be helpful if the tank was less than half full at the time of service." I listen to Blackfang because he is a Subie mechanic and knows his stuff.
I'm all for making it easier on my Subaru mechanics.....they are a great bunch of guys at my dealership.

Thanks. However, I am a Service Advisor, not a mechanic or technician.

where is the fuel pump? I didn't go exploring that yet in mine. Is it under that mat that is under the back seat?

"helpful if the tank were less than half" is a far cry from "not have much gas in it" or the "below 1/4" they requested from me - not that I mind, that seems like common courtesy.

Not having the parts available when the damn notices went out - that's a major ****-up!

Pumps like this are normally installed in the top of the tank, so yes, I suspect there is an access panel under the seat. I haven't looked for it though to confirm.

Every dealership should have parts on hand at first unless back ordered and so far they are not. If not, shame on them. The Parts dept should have ordered a certain amount ahead of time. For the Baja recall we have 5, for the forester/impreza fuel tank one way valve recall we have 42. it all is based on how many they expect to do in their customer data base.

Possible. They may have a lot of Baja's sold in that region. We have like 7 or so Baja customers.

Suffice it to say I'm skeptical.

I don't think I've ever seen more than a half-dozen bajas in this COUNTY...
