Default Radiator Fluid...possible dumb question

Can I just use the Prestone or whatever brand fluid at Autozone that is pre-mixed and good for 150K? Or do I have to use the Subaru stuff?

Thanks...sorry for dumbness if it is dumb. Word?

Look in your manual. Subaru only recommends using their coolant. its formulated for their all aluminum radiators and is only $20. I think it has something to do with phosphorus content. It's concentrated so I use distilled water only to get a 50/50 mix. If you buy that pre mixed crap you are pretty much paying for half a gallon of their water.

I'd give you a gallon of the subaru stuff if you were local. I've got 20+ gallons laying around at work that are starting to get in my way.

all fluid capacities are in your manual. 2 gallons of 50/50 will do it and should leave you with some extra coolant for top offs.

....if you're going with the factory fill, just note that the standard "Long Life Coolant" is not premixed. You will need to blend it yourself with water (distilled if you prefer). If you're using a 50/50 mix then 1 gallon of the coolant will make (obviously) 2 gallons. Don't get the "Long Life Coolant" confused with the newer "Super Coolant" (which is not recommended for your MY). Also, you may want to consider using the coolant conditioner (it's up to you). ....all of the details are in the Cooling System FAQ. Read the info and decide for yourself:
