Default 6 speed servicing qns

Hi,

Ive a 04 jdm sti gearbox in my 06 wrx and would like to swop out the gear oil for oem extra s and lsd oil. Im having grinding sounds during slow speed turns, else, shifting is not a problem.
Ive searched and gathered that subaru extra s seems to be the popular and rationale choice to go with. However, when i approach the local dealer, they were unable to tell me if they were using extra s. They merely said its a factory oil and shares the same oil withe wrx's 5 speeders. Im seriously not convinced that they know their stuffs. Anyhow, i would like to have vendor names who sells extra s in single quart bottles. Also, apart from the actual gb oil and lsd oil, is there anything that i will need to change as a routine servicing? I hear the local dealer telling me theres a need to change the gasket, where the hell is that gasket from may i ask?

That is where I got my extra s from. It actually just got delivered. At ~13-14 a quart delivered, it's a lot better than other places per quart, however, buying it by 20L is a very good deal (~9/qt shipped) but it'd make sense if you split it with some local subbie owners. Next time I'm going to order the 20L drum from :

http://www.subarupartswarehouse.com/index.htm
PN: K0322AA093

It's only like $17 to ship which is a ton cheaper than the $50 that subaruegenuineparts.com wants.

You can get away reusing the copper gasket on the drain plug for the gear box. I think the plugs on the diff has sealer on it, not a gasket.

By the way, I would say most dealers do NOT use Extra S if you have then do your gear oil. Most that I have called don't even know what it is. They are like "uhhhhh are you talking about STI LSD fluid in the metal jugs".

hey bro,

yeah. i thought the 20litre keg makes alot of sense. By the fact that im in SINGAPORE, shipment is gonna be crazy. I actually tried ordering it through subarugenuineparts and the shipment is a whopping 400+! theres also no options for sea freight.
Will there be any vendors that sells 20litres but able to ship internationally?
I'm with u on this. The local dealer is like..."erm sir, its a factory oil, dont orry..." thats being repeated till i decided to return my queue number and walk off.

Wow, sorry I missed your location. Yeah it might not be cost effective then .

But you are a lot closer to Japan than us, so maybe you can buy it directly from FHI?
