Default Group Driving School at VIR 6/22?

Track Time is having a driving school at VIR (full course) on June 22nd, and if we can get 5 or more people, we'll get a special group discount. Don't know what that is right now, but I'll let you know ASAP. I just want to gauge the interest. I would guess it'd be ~$300 for the day.

Thanks,

Tim

we went and saw the Ferrari Challenge there last weekend. That track is great. Some day when I get wheels/tires/brake upgrade I would love to do something like that. The one part reminded me of the corkscrew at Laguna Seca. I also loved sitting on the far side of the bridge and waiting for the 360s to come screaming out of the tunnel...

Tim,

Your car can be stock, correct? If so I'm interested and I have some non-Scoobie friends who may be interested too.

I am already signed up for the two day school that weekend. Not sure if I am going to drive my car yet. I asked about this a few months ago with no answers, so I went ahead and spent the 550 dollars to attend. I have done a little work on my car in preparation. I installed KYB/AGX's with MRT springs, 18mm sway bar, s/s brake lines, I have EBC slotted rotors/ hawk pads going on in a few weeks, a ganz intake with Amsoil filter, and a Brospeed catback. I have been a little afraid of crashing my car, so I may opt to rent the schools Z3. See ya there...Rob "GQ"

GQ,

You HAVE to take your car. You put all the effort and money into it to make it faster and handle better, and the track is the only place to REALLY use it.

I'l see you there no matter what. IF I don't get 5 people by the end of the week, I'm just going to sign up myself.

Hey Tim, Do ya plan on going for both days? It cost me 550 for two days, which doesn't seem bad. I was just at the track last week for the Ferrari Challenge, and am really excited that I get to drive on this track. Very nice race track. I most likely will use my own car, although I would really like to have a few more horsepower, and also not have to worry about wrecking my only vehicle. Talk to ya later...Rob "GQ"

Well....if you're so worried about your car...then don't use it. But your car and a BMW Z3 are going to handle very differently. You'll learn a lot, but some of that won't translate into your own car. I had my RS out on the track ma few times, and it is underpowered in the strights, but I could keep up with, if not catch, just about anything in the twisties. Plus VIR has a lot of run-off, so there's very little chance to "wreck" it. I'm taking the WRX to watkins Glen on Monday, and it'll be the first time in this car. I know it's going to be a very different experience with the extra 70hp and 400lbs, but I'm REALLY looking forward to it.

That is the same weekend as the NASA HPDE at Summit Point. I have already commited to that.
Yeah I know VIR is a better track, but NASA = cheaper

In your experience, do you see very many accidents at the track? I am not a bad driver, although everybody says that, but I do have good motor skills, having riden motocross and road bikes for years. I know that they aren't the same, but should help. I know that there is no guarantee either, but is the chance of wrecking all that great at such a school. I know that I sound like a kid(actually I am 31), but I really do want to drive my car at this track. It is a hard decision to make. I am thinking of buying another car for work transportation, just in case. HaHa...Rob

VERY few accidents at the 7 track days I've attended at Summit. Only 2 major ones. I was involved in one of them. It was a freak thing and I've learned from the experience. A Camaro blew up in front of me in the middle of a turn, and when I hit the oil, the car spun and backed into a tire barrier. Nothing I could do. Like I said...it was really just bad luck. Of course there is a chance this could happen by just being on the track, but at least now I know NOT to follow any smoking cars, and not to follow too close. And this same thing could happen on any turn on any road, not just at the track.

I'd say you have less of a chance getting in a wreck at a track day than you do driving on the beltway. There are very strict rules about passing, and your instructor is not going to let you get "in over your head".

I've only had my car 2 1/2 months and I'm VERY excited to get it out on the track.

I saw that video. Didn't know that was you. Yes the beltway can be crazy. So, did ya sign up yet? If not, ask them about a discount. Actually, I called them to ask for info on the school. They told me that if I signed up right then and their that I would get 100 dollars off. That was enough to lure me in. It's worth a try...Rob "GQ"

Cool. Looks like we're not going to get a group, but if they giving $100 off, I'm signing up NOW! Do you remember the name of the person you talked to?

I'd better see that RS out on the track!

Later,

Tim

Just called and talked to "Trenda" and there was no mention of the $100 off.

I just remembered that I am signed up for the FATT at Summit on the 21st, so it looks like I won't make it to VIR on the 22nd. Bummer.

Did ya still sign up? I tell ya, they took the two day price of 650, and dropped to 550. I too talked to a woman, and when I was starting to end the conversation she said, "have you heard that we have 100 off if you sign up today". I hope that you can manage a discount. Try again at a different time tomm. I will most likely use my car (The RS)...Rob "GQ"

Too darn expensive. Yes I know how much VIR-Full rules but... Summit will be ~250 or less for me for both days.

300bux a day is way too much for track time. I think i'mma run at the hyper fest junx end of june at summit. its only 40bux for track time there. Also when i'm done wiht that i can enter the drift contest and finally the roll over contest.

It's not just time out on the track, it is a "Performance Driving School"...

Huh? Are you saying that when a person is at a program such as FATT, instructors and class time are part of it? I am not being a smartass, just honestly asking a question...Rob"GQ"

Yup, FAT provides a class and a in-car instructor. Also speed trial provides the same thing but cheaper for 2 day.

I'm gonna be doing the hyperfest thing.

Do you think you have what it takes to become a racecar driver? Do you want to test the speed and handling of street car in a safe, controlled environment? Do you think you're fast? If answered yes to one or more of the above you'll have your chance at Hyperfest. The National Auto Sport Association (Virginia Chapter) will be holding open track sessions where entrants will receive classroom instruction and will be provided with an in-car instructor. Each session will be 20 minutes of full throttle driving for only $40.
