Castrol 5w-50 or M1 0w-40 or Valvoline Syn 5w-40
here's my dilemma, I'm doing an oil change on my wife's Land Rover which only takes Mobile 1 0w-40, Castrol Syntec 5W-50 or Valvoline Synpower 5w-40. There's a few others, but they're only available overseas I think. I was thinking it might be easier and more cost efficient if I could buy this expensive oil in larger quantities and use it in both her truck and my 2002 WRX? Has anyone ever used either of these oils in their WRX? Or am I wasting my time and should just get a dedicated oil for my Subaru. I know I should go on Bob Is the Oil Guy and do some research, but to be honest, there's just too much info on there. I end up just getting frustrated. So, I just thought I'd ask for a few opinions on here. BTW my WRX only has very minor modifications and is mostly stock.

Strange that they limit the oil brands like that.
What's the recommended oil change interval? If it's long I would probably go with the 5w-50. However, that's not exactly right for the wrx. Not many people like Mobil synthetics here and it's a 0w. The Valvoline 5w-40, would be within the scope of Subaru's recommendations. It seems logical to go for that in quantity. |

Yeah, Land Rover says 12,000 miles between changes, which just seems really long to me, but I think that's they're reason behind recommending these types of oils. And they're VERY specific in the owners manual that these are the ONLY oils that should be used in the vehicle. Either way I thought it was a long shot, and I'm not a fan of M1 either, and I love Valvoline, seems like it's one of the better synthetics out there now. But I don't want to compromise the Subbie just because I'm trying to be cheap. I still need to think about it, but it sounds like the Valveoline Syn 5W-40 is probably the safest.
