Default Any good places to stretch my car in Atlanta area?

Hello all, I bought my car on the 29th of April, a Silver WRX. I have just over 300 miles on her, and when I hit that magical 1000 mile mark I wanna see what she will do safely! Is there any place around here I can run a track, or track like place? Dirt, asphault? I'm on the southside of town in Stockbridge, Ga. Bought my car at Conley and they were great!

Also, when is the next altanta meet, big or small, I wanna meet some fellow WRX'ers in the area.

Thanks!

Robert

Default Yo

You just missed us ... I had people at my place last Sat. There is no place in the Atlanta area that you can "run" your REX had w/out being illegal. Just be careful. If you want to do 0-70 you can go on the 120 Loop or if you plan on 0-100 you can hit 575N.

You can also bring the car out to an autocross, which will be kind of like running your car on a very long go-kart track. Pretty tight, but easy to have a lot of fun. Plus, you'll really learn the limits of handling for your car.

Autocrosses are held every few weekends in the parking lots next to Turner Field. There's a novice school planned for June 8 and an autocross on June 9. Find out more than you ever wanted to know at http://www.atl-scca.org/solo2.htm

Thanks for the advice guys! What about this tail of the dragon meet, anyone going? Is there any planned get together of any sort before this event? I'd like to meet some guys before going up there, but I'm not sure if I can attend yet or not, have to convince the wife...

Not from the Atlanta area, but Braselton, GA has Road Atlanta which is a world-class track. I suggest signing up for a driver's education and trying the car out then. Porsche Club of America, BMWCCA, and numerous other organizations hold DE events there and are well worth the money.

chuglobal,

I headed up there to MPS, but it looks as though the cops had everyone evicted, so I noticed a big crowd at SYMS parking lot, didn't see any other REX's there so I just took off... I was a late arriver though, didn't get there until 10:45 so I guess I just missed you. Maybe I can catch you next thursday though!

Cool, at least there is a lot of REX's out there now! I couldn't have run any anyhow, since I now have just over 500 miles on her, half way there!!!

Hey, another WRX stockbridge-ian, cool! I don't think there to many of us in this town! Yeah, I wish I could use the car to the full potential, just can't wait to get her broke in! Do you have any mods on your car yet? We defenately have to hook up on the southside! Where in Stockbridge do you live? I'm near 138 right of Walt Stevens road.

My first 500 miles on the car have all been fun even though I can't really get on it too much, it's just such a wonderful handeling car!

Does road atlanta ever let regular cars on the track? If so, how do I go about getting out there? That would be ideal after break in!

Hey I have the exact same radar detector! I got ripped off on it by hifi buys though...for $75 more I could have gotten the valentine1. It's saved my arse a few times though, so I suppose it paid for itself.

I'm I the only one here who thought that Robert was looking for some type of limo conversion for his WRX?

Congrats on the new car!

Hahah, yeah, I probably could have stated that better! But now that you mention it... I could be the fastest 1/4 mile limo in the US! What a site! A stretch REX!!!

I-575 is not bad but there is a GA state trooper office in Canton isn't there.. I think once I-575 splits off then maybe that's the place to get the WRX up to top speed..
I've had mine up to 117 on I-575 and When I get new wheels and tires then I'll go to 130-140..

its about a daily routine for me to get to at least 100mph going home from work each day...work in one of the galleria high rises (75/285 int) and live off of roswell road...fastest ive been in atl or anywhere is 120mph racing a new m3 after work on my way home, its against the flow of traffic so i wasnt endangering anyone....im stock so needless to say i lost and i knew i would...just wanted to see how she compared...as for all of you that live in atl, is there ever any "garage days" or "install parties" like our brothers in texas and new england areas have...i will not be stock for ever, and i would just like to hang out if others are doing upgrades and learn a lil...
