Default Laptop for N/A use?

I'm thinking about getting a older laptop soon to start wardriving (if anyone's interested, post and I'll explain..) and I was wondering if using a laptop in my n/a car would have any use? I don't want to spend the money on a TECII, but does plugging into the OBD2 port have any useful info while driving besides what the CEL means and to clear the CEL?

I'd like something that could do Roaddyno tests or something, or 0-60 times because I know my friends would be inept with a stopwatch. Thanks.

Why would someone want to do that? Didn't people used to do something like that, called combat dialing, in the 80s? They would have a computer program that would dial every number in a sequence looking from computers to log into.

Yes, its named after wardialing, which was when a modem called up every number in the area looking for a modem sound to connect to the internet. But wardriving consists of honkey nerds, laptops with wlan cards, and pringles-can antenna looking for unsecure access point in DHCP mode to snag an IP address and get access to the net. Quite cool, and especially useful and fun to do on road trips.

http://www.netstumbler.com if you're interested. But back to my original question?

they are not hacker they are called

Phreakers

that is the term most commonly used for telecom pirates.

the scene isn't big in the US but in the UK and it is much easier. back in the 80's and early 90's you used ot be able to make free phone calls from pay phone by having a recording of a tone dialer set to ring in certain ammounts of money. The ammount of money register into a pay phone was register by sonds of the * button I believe, a certain number of pulses would indicate a certain value

you learn something new everday
try readin an e-zine called Anti-social magazine you can download it in DAT files and they have a veiwer for them. I'll see if I can find a link if anyone is interested in that stuff
