/\/\/\/\ Decided to clear the whole light. Used the Metalcast red and Duplicolor Auto clear coat. 1 light coat of red followed by 3 medium coats. Finished with 3 coats of clear. I'll finish them up by polishing in a few days. I think they came out great and look 1000x better than before.

I'll get some better pics once I finish shining them up.

i've got to redo mine...didn't use UV resistant clear coat, so mine faded a bit.

otherwise, you end up with a nice little ridge of paint that wax and dirt will stick to.

and as far as the third light, you need to take off the rear spoiler... just 4 bolts and some clips.
for my 3rd brake light, i just took some newspaper and just taped it onto the car and all around the light. didnt get a lick of paint on any parts of the car. didnt have the tool to get the 2 screws out.

duplicolor metalcast and some duplicolor clear coat...i probably didn't apply it heavy enough though...i was afraid it'd start to get runs. oh well though, i've done it once...i'll do it better next time.

even if you get those screws out, you can't disconnect the wires. You have to remove those two screws after you remove the spoiler. All you need is a ratchet, 10 or 12 mm iirc. There's 4 bolts.

you need to remove the entire spoiler if you want to paint it off the car, which I did. I don't have lots of news paper around, and even then, paint travels mysteriously.

So I did this mod to my 07 tail lights. Everyone knows they are probably the worst looking stock lights of the wrx.

I used metalcast red with a clear coat enamel paint.

4 light coats of red and 2 clear.

So, uh, I tried using Valspar "stained glass" red paint. I used 3 coats of red and then did 2 coats of clear and I'm not that happy with the results. I'm thinking the Valspar paint is thicker than the Krylon... anybody have any luck removing it with acetone? Or should I just use goo-gone + scrubbing?

^^^ that sucks dude.

what sucks even more, is that you would have known not to use that paint if you would have read the entire thread.

Also, is it possible to paint the inside of the housing? You guys think it would look better at all?

/\/\/\/\ I think people have had more luck with the Duplicolor Metalcast.

If I'm not mistaken on the housing is that it is basically impossible to cleanly paint the inside as they are not as easily separable like the head light housings are. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

Does duplicolor make a good black tint spray paint or should I try some VHT night shade?

/\/\/\ When it comes to "smoking" I think people favor VHT night shade. I've never used it. But again, just my opinion based on what I see around here.
