Your paint in the write up looks good BTW.
I'm from PR, but inspections here are not that harsh, plus many american vehicles have red turn signals from the factory. I believe you won't have an issue if you at least leave the reverse lights clear.

Hey guys, i'm having trouble removing the fender liner where it connects to the rest of it. I have all the white clips popped out but it's not coming off at the pillers on the side. Top left and right corners of this piece:

Any suggestions? I fear that if i pull too hard that i might break it

This made me lol. But i ended up just leaving it on there. I was able to get to the bolts without taking it completely off so i didn't bother trying to remove it any further

How do you get rounded corners with masking tape?. I picked up a roll of clear cupboard/cabinet liner. It has an adhesive backing so this is what i'm doing: Cut out a piece of lining, stick it to the tailight, trace out the lines with a marker where it needs to be masked, take the lining off, attach it to another piece of lining (because the tack would be less adhesive if you take it off to cut it and reattach it) and cut the shape out of the new piece of lining. It's a little bit time consuming but it seems to be a precise way to get detailed corners. It's also a pain in the arse to work with cause it keeps rolling back up whenever i try to cut it, making it hard to get a clean cut - so i'm letting it straighten out atm.

You can round the edges of the tape. Tear off a piece and practice. Not sure how to describe the process of doing it but it's not too hard

Did you start with the third brake light area? This is like a puzzle, so you need to start from there, then the sides and leave the trim on the pic for last.

The way i did it turned out really well. Go to your local canadian tire equivalent and look in the kitchen/organization section for some clear cabinet liner. I was worried that the tack wouldn't be strong enough but it was perfect. And it's cheap too, only cost me $5.

What you do is:

1) Cut liner into a rectangle big enough to fit over what you want masked out (reverse light in this case)

2) Stick it over top of the part you want masked (again, reverse light) and outline the shape with a sharpie

3) Peel off the liner off of the light, stick it onto a fresh piece of liner and cut the shape out of the fresh piece

Done. That way you have perfect corners and edges without having to engrave your headlights like Celery over here haha. You could skip step 3 and just cut out the shape from the original piece, but the adhesive might wear down once taken off so i just played it safe. It may be a little bit more time consuming..or maybe not since i didn't try it with masking tape in the first place..but this way you know it will be super precise.

Just finished with them earlier today and they didn't turn out the greatest. Paint is very light and uneven around the edges on the outside light. I'm gonna have to give them another coat eventually but they don't look too bad from a distance. I also don't think i gave the top clear coat enough time to dry (last coat of clear went on at around 10pm and i wetsanded today at around 1pm). Not to mention i'm having great difficulty trying to put the hatch liner back on..

Comes stock using the 2009's. The 2009s I personally don't like to express it but they are 100 occasions much better than the 08s.

Upgraded turbo (faster inside a 1/4 mile than the usual stock STI!!!!!)

red-colored sewn interior

no chromy pieces around the vehicle

gunmetal rims

etc, etc, etc. The main difference between your two cars is extremely significant. Take a look at cars101.com for the variations. Also look at this!!!! 2008 versus 2009 wrx. The 09 absolutly walks all around the 08. Subaru really did perform a phenominal job with getting customer comments around the 08's and extremely made something using the 2009's. I hated the 2008's once they arrived on the scene due to all of the chrome and all sorts of the jewelry than once the 2009's were launched, they caught my attention!

its been covered somewhere before. I think people have done it, but you can't just bake them open, it involve cutting plastic and gluing it back together

I hope nobody makes the same mistake and tries this on an 02-07 model.

I did it and then spent about 2 hrs removing it, looked terrible.

But I sure love it on 08 + hatches!

Well...I can't get the damn thing back on lol. Step by step instructions would go a long way. Pictures would also be most helpful but i don't think anybody wants to go through such lengths to help out a noob haha

are white clips on the pic you posted broken off? if not the bottom trim piece should pop right back in with little pressure. just line it up as it should be on there.

i could take some pics but i doubt it'll be really helpful since you can't really see much other then when the panel is on or off.

first off, i think every hatch should do this mod. I hate the all clear look.
Just in case you all were wondering what blacked out looks like here it is... beware that i went tooooo black and on sunny days it is hard to see blinkers and you may gert pulled over. At night though, it is as if they are stock.

Now that we established what u like and dislike I'll just add that I don't like it and that it's not practical or safe.

Also since all of u seem to be changing ur rear lights I am going to keep mine stock to be different - sorry it's my thing it's what I do...u know!?...
