JDM 5-Speed Problems

Lately I have been having trouble engaging 1st and Reverse in my Subaru. It's a '99 STi RA so AFAIK it shares its transmission/diffs with the Type R and 22b (shorter ratios and DCCD). The problem has come about in the last 100 miles or so and is getting progressively worse so I have stopped driving the car. It only occurs when the car is at a complete standstill. I engage the clutch then attempt to put the shifter in 1st but theres is some resistance which requires me to push harder than normal to engage the gear. Selecting gears (even 1st) is fine when the car is rolling and there is no slippage when accelerating in gear. I am not hard on the transmission (no launches, rev-match, shift correctly) and the driveline is entirely stock. Car has done 60k miles.

If I could get some help diagnosing the problem and advise on a fix that would be great.

Try changing out the fluid. I remember when I changed out the fluid in my RS and switched to Valvoline 75w90 non-syn, getting it into first was a pain in the ass, especially when at a stop. It would just grind before going into 1st. I had to double-clutch it all the time. It did not happen before with the old fluid so I drained it out and put in the fully synthetic version of valvoline and the issue went away.
