Default Whos feeling spontaneous..

Ok heres the deal. A few of us are going to take a trip starting tonight and ending Monday. My wife and I will be riding motocycles and others are driving. The plan is to leave the Valley some time tonight and start heading north towards fairbanks. We are just going to take off and go as far as everyone feels like then were going to find a place to sleep/camp (whatever). Depending on weather we are trying to make it to Fairbanks by Saturaday but we don't really have to. We are just going out for the journey not any destination. Also bringing fishing gear, gold panning gear, guns, etc. Going to be a down for whater weekend on the road. The plan is to have everyone back by Monday night. Anyone interested in this last minute ride drop a PM or call me. We also have seats open for people that just want to ride along in a car.

it was picked up yesterday

NOAA websites all say scattered showers and areas of smoke, the only smoke advisory is farther east of FBX

Ya, not the best time

(PARKS HIGHWAY, Alaska) Alaska State Troopers, the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities and the Alaska Interagency Coordination Center discourage motorists from traveling on the Parks Highway south of Fairbanks unless absolutely necessary. Due to wildfires in the Interior, visibility is exceptionally poor along multiple stretches of roadway.

If you must travel in the Interior, consider utilizing the Richardson Highway. Motorists currently on the Parks are traveling at 20 miles per hour on many stretches of road with their headlights and flashers on. In some locations, visibility is significantly diminished.

DOT&PF is working on getting flashing signs out on the highway to further caution drivers of the conditions. In some areas, the speed limit will be reduced to 35 miles per hour due to the thick smoke.

Troopers equate the current driving conditions on the Parks Highway to severe winter driving conditions. Motorist should use extreme caution.

There are areas along the Parks Highway where fire crews and fire fighting equipment are staged. Having your headlights on will also make you more visible to them. Please keep their safety in mind as you are passing them.
