Leslie.
He was never a road course ringer. He went from V8 Supercars to NASCAR CWTS in 2006 and ran all ovals and got a couple top fives.

Bull, he's not JJ, but he's damn sure up there. Hell he's beating McMurray, Mears, Harvick and Earnhardt, all of those guys grew up on it. He's a guy who can do it all, give him a year or two and a more consistent team, and he'll be in the Chase.

I agree Ambrose is a great driver but he is not a ringer, he has be driving in Nascar for 3-4 years now. The likes of Boris Said and Ron Fellows have been brought in to try and win on the road courses in Nascar (not talking Busch/Nationwide series) and the highest either has finished is 3rd. I took JPM, who we all know is a great driver, 2 and a half years to win on a road course and he crashed his teammate to do it.

What?

He won two road course races in 2007 (one cup, one busch). Where are you getting 2.5 years later? 2007 was his first full year in cup.

Secondly, he made a bad move going for that pass, but even Scott said he was goign to let him by because he was that much faster. Hardly taking out a teammate to do it.

What does a comma have to do with it? It didn't take 2.5 years, he won in his first full year, twice. Actually, I think it was his first time on a roadcourse in each car.

I was mistaken it was in the middle of his first season, it doesn't change the fact that he crashed Scott Pruitt to win the Bucsh race Mexico (his first win) Later that season when he won at Infinion in the Sprint Cup, Jamie McMurry ran out of gas on the final lap giving the win to JPM.

Don't get me wrong I love JPM and I wold love to see him win a championship in Nascar i'm just saying that the ringers don't dome into Nascar and beat up on the regular guys (who cannot turn right according to Nascar haters.)

No, Montoya passed McMurray with 7 laps to go and then McMurray ran out of fuel on the last lap after he had already been passed.

No, you were mistaken on the 2.5 year part (which for some reason you still havne't admitted to). And now you're mistaken on the running out fo gas part.

And my point with Pruett was:

You're implying that he would not won if not for taking out his teammate (who finished 5th)...this is pure BS as even Pruett said he was going to let JPM by. He had a very good chance at winning without the dive-bomb. You're downplaying, and mistaking numerous facts to make your point (which is the only thing that is valid that you've said)

0/3.

I'm fairly sure Scott Pruett never said he would just let him by. More that he was a sec faster and would probably have gotten by.

Get him the sponsors and cars that the top guys in the sprint cup series have and he will be in the winners circle

Also, regarding lower level guys, he beat around a dozen of the guys from the sprint cup series, including Carl Edwards who is currently running 6th in the cup and Kyle Busch who is currently running 13th in the cup - both of whom I wouldn't call lower level guys

But yeah, point taken I guess - only time will tell if the "road course ringer" will be able to notch up some wins in the cup series against all those "roundy round racers"

Leslie

EDIT: Also, don't forget this is Ambrose's first season in the cup series, with a car that is not as quick or reliable as the top guys' cars and even with these limitations he is still placed in the top 20, came 4th at Taladega (rnd 9) in front of almost all the current top 10 drivers, ran 3rd at Sonoma (rnd 16) in front of currently the best NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson (who came in 4th).

And don't forget that last year at the glen in a cup car he started in 43rd spot and finished 3rd, infront of Jimmie Johnson, Juan, Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards and almost all the other top drivers in NASCAR.

Give him a good ride and Ambrose will really shake things up

Edit 2: And he finished 2nd at the Glen Yesterday in the cup series.

Yep, I'm not saying he can't win, nor that he will never, just stating the fact that he has never won a Nextel Cup (or Sprint Cup, or Crappy Wireless Phone Provider Cup, whatever its called) race.

Fair enough, but he should have won at the Glen yesterday, if it wasn;t for the stupid pit strategy call that kept him out when he should have pitted.

lol, hopefully he'll get a win soon

That's a pretty gnarly crash, but maybe not quite as gnarly as the one with Gilliland last year.

I just rewatched and noticed the fuel cell and its support cage were completely ripped out of Hornish's car. It's most noticeable at 0:55.

Yeah that was Khane. At about 0:32, it looks like the back end steps out a bit on him. You can see the rear make first contact with Hornish. He then over corrects and spins Hornish out.

To quote him he said something to the affect of, "we can work it out", clearly implying he would let him by. The commentators understood it clearly as well, as did a reporter interviewing Montoya after the race, stating, "Scott said he would have let you by..."

Now whether he would have done what he said is another story. But yes, he most certainly said it...
