Default knock at low load?

Can anybody tell when our engines begin to knock at low load, when cruising at AFR 14.7? What is the normal ignition that our engines like there?
I have dialed in about 40, should I advance it a bit further?

Please let me know, your opinion!

many sti run around 40-45 degrees or even more.. i have a 2.5liter with 2.0 heads and my timing while cruising on low rpms is around 42

My engine is an EJ22t with STI V5/6 heads and forged internals, so I should be able to run about 43 at least.
Any other opinions and real life numbers?!

I observed something strange.

Took the car for some testruns onto the Autobahn and noticed, that I had some strange noise (seemed to sound like pinging though the detcans) at low throttle and cruisespeed at about 80mph, running about 42 IGN and AFR 14.5
Never noticed this noise when I drove with higher IGN (e.g. 45 at them same AFR)

Is it possible to be too retarded with ignitionvalues to make the engine unhappy???

Yes it is possible, but keep in mind that RPM plays a roll in this as well, not just load. I have no idea what gearset you have, so no idea what RPM you were at, but just because load is low, doesn't mean RPM is.

Sorry forgot to mention, I have a 6 speeder from an EU/UK STI in my classic and the rpm was at about 3000rpm and it was the same at low speed in 2nd and 3rd gear as well.
Might this be some noise from the hard engine- and gearboxmountings?

The stock tune on my car ran 45 degrees at 3200+ rpm and .6 load, and 4800+ / .9 load. I have noticed a tendency for the ECU to detect knock when I drive in that area (low throttle, high rev) and then add throttle. I was turning it down a degree at a time until ride5000 said a couple days ago that he runs mid-30s in that corner of the timing table. So I dropped mine to 40 degrees, still got some knock, and just flashed a map with 38.6 degrees. Driveability is no worse, but I'm thinking about adding fuel now instead of subtracting timing, if the problem persists.

Which engine do you have? I have got a 2.2l with forged internals.
I read the answer from Ride500 as well and wondered, because I never heared about such low IGN in the low load area...
Will try to lower it as well.
I also wonder if this "pinging" comes from the forged internals?!?
