Default clutch not disengaging, normal pedal

Not seeing these symptoms in the search...

The car: '04 WRX wagon, 63k mi, stock and original drivetrain. Even when driven spiritedly, I'm very gentle while shifting, never pop the clutch and never power shift, always rev match. Clutch has always grabbed well, no noticeable changes in friction point and no slipping.

The symptoms: Clutch pedal feels fine, totally normal. I can see no evidence of fluid on the master or slave cylinders. If the car is off, I can change gears. If I start the car (in neutral), I can not get the car into gear. If i put the car into 1st gear (while off) and start the car, the starter will 'drive' the car. Okay, so the clutch isn't releasing despite a normal pedal feel. Finally, when the car is idling in neutral, there are no 'new' or 'extra' noises and no changes in sound when the clutch is pressed.

The story: Trip to VA this past weekend, no incidents, just a normal road trip. As I was pulling into my driveway (oh the luck in timing!) as I got home (steepish driveway) I was going too slow to make it all the way up in 2nd. So as I rolled to a stop (and before rolling backwards), I shifted into 1st and went to accelerate, the car revved up and chirped as I let off the clutch - I don't recall having botched it and was surprised by that. As I parked the car, I had a hard time getting it out of gear... basically, whatever happened, happened right then.

Please help. What is the likely culprit here?

Thanks a lot! -Jeff

it sounds like you broke a chunk of clutch material off the clutch and it has gotten wedged between the clutch and the flywheel.

Or you welded the clutch to the flywheel but \i have never heard of anyone doing this with a stock clutch before.

I have had what your describing happen to me twice but with a act 6 puck clutch under agressive launches while slipping the clutch exesively.

hmm... interesting. I see what you're saying, but I only had it at maybe 1/4 throttle, just didn't catch where i thought it would. Just seems like a very small incident for this to happen. such a mystery!!

Default master/slave cyl appear fine

Okay, so I had someone come over and push the clutch pedal a few times, and I can see the slave cylinder doing its thing beautifully...

Other thoughts??

Thanks.
