Why do you say big suprise? I have a 6 speed swap, and I thought the td06sl would be a better choice to work with my gearing. your google foo or ebay jargon is certainly better than mine because I only saw 7cms! But its cool, I am liking the price of these turbos especially if they are what they are. I will be using one before I know it.

Oh surprise because people always want a TD06 20G. They don't hold power better to redline and honestly a TD06 7cm^2 20G will make less power (total power under the curve) than a TD05 8CM^2 20G. What makes the 20G hold power to redline is the 8CM^2 housing mostly. The TD06 wheel is not that much better than the TD05. That is why I want the SL02 with the garret 60-1 compressor wheel. It also has the 11 blade turbine wheel so a ton of exhaust air and heat gets in there up top spinning the hell out of it at the expense of some lag. Same parts are in an FP Green. Wonder why an EVO makes such big power with smaller turbos? Well, part of it is the 10.5 CM^2 exhaust housing (and they are twin scroll, right next to the exhaust manifold where less heat dissipates).

Definitely get the SL02 over a regular 20G. I have had a 20G and it is a good turbo, but I really want it to pull to redline in all situations (regular gas as well as E85 or gas+meth).

received my td05-18g 8cm from them today. Shipping took 2 weeks, straight from Taiwan. Signature was required and packaging and box look fantastic. All fittings, lines, studs, and new gaskets were included. The only concern I have is that it appears to be a 7cm housing and I ordered the 8cm variety.

I'll update as I move forward. Still waiting on some bits and pieces.

60-1 will be more of a green for the compressor side ~48lbs from my understanding.

side note, the one you got is not a kamak... dunno what the brand actually is of the one you purchased.. but let us know how it goes.

It says "Supplier: Kinugawa Turbo, Japan" on the eBay page.

But whatever it is, keep us posted on the results.

it was rumored kinugawa is rebranded kamak... so that would make sense... but it is not directly a kamak.. dunno how much it matters to be honest.

Did you guys realize that the obx rotated kit comes with a kinugawa turbo? Yes, I'm thinking about it...
Something Clark T. said about china turbos also peaked my interest and confirms something that another insider told me. Kamak parts and turbos? Taiwanese not Chinese?

As for the pipes.. They are direct copy of the Greddy kit and look the same. Owners have said the obvious.. You need to make the intercooler pipes and intake but other then that, They seemed to have no issues with it.

Expect GT30R or higher power if the rest of the setup is done right. There is one in my garage right now that makes more then GT30R power. One advantage is that the 25G is really happt at 25 to 26 psi of boost pressure on these motors and you wont have to run 30 to get good power out like a 30R.

I dont recall the OBX kit coming with a kinugawa... for the entire kit it costs 2/3 of what a kinugawa turbo does.

from their own add "and t67-25g spec'd turbo all made by OBX" not kinugawa, not kamak, what brand it is I don't know. same company? possibly. but judging by the price I kinda doubt it.

"Made by" is a very relative term these days, no? Are they actually made by employees of OBX in a facility that is exclusively OBX? Unlikely for all but a few brands. So it becomes a matter of degrees. Most likely it's a spec item, made by whoever can meet the OBX spec.

It is also possible that OBX simply buy different parts for the turbo from different turbo part suppliers (ie. Kamak or whoever) and then assemble those parts in house, which would support the "made by OBX" claim.

I think you may be right, in the obx rotated thread it was mentioned that it was a kinugawa. After looking at the obx site, I kind of doubt it. Too bad the rotated kit isn't available without the turbo.

It's cheap enough to buy the kit including the turbo and just throw the turbo out lol. You cpould always just sell the turbo that comes with the kit and buy yourself a quality turbo with the same flange.

I was thinking the same thing. the kit is cheap enough to get it all working with the supplied turbo, then toss it in the can when you can afford a better one... maybe an Actual kinugawa 25g (has anti surge front port to) for the 1100 it costs...

the OBX kit is a very good buy, however being forced to go with a FMIC, make your own piping, and your own intake will not make it possible for some... myself included. cost of local fabricators is very high, not enough to justify the purchase. But for sure, it is one of the lower cost options.

if my money were on a bet I'd probably say the OBX turbo is the same parts as are in the TBD (think that is the brand) turbos you see for around 350 on Ebay... maybe not, but based on the cost of everything it would make the most sense... but again, that's not saying they are garbage, but it IS questionable for that cheap (the turbo, anyone can make and weld pipes, just check over the welds).

for stock location, Kamak does seem like a nice option.. I just need to recoup some money from a douche that would not refund my money or give me the turbo before I can grab a kamak myself and then report back on it.

The OBX kit is just a clone of the Trust/Greddy kit, so if you can't fab something, then just buy the Trust/Greddy FMIC, piping and intake and all is good - although my guess is that you could get a fab shop to do them cheaper lol.

iv been following/reading these kamak and kinugawa threads for a while and am looking on some imput

first off i have a 08 wrx with TBE Intake Walbro255 and a OS tune. FMIC is ordered and i plan on doing TGV deletes and injectors very soon

what are your guys thoughts on the 8cm^2 TD05 with the T518z compressor housing it looks like a steal for only 750 plus shipping and taxes

SUBARU-Impreza-STI-TD05H-18G-8cm-T518Z

i dont really have a HP goal for the car other then over 300Hp and that doesnt reall mater because it prolly will never set for on a dyno just a roadtune from TurboTek and a airboy spreadsheet. my main goals it for it hold boost to redline i hate how the stocker hits 18psi by 3000 and by redline its lower the 10

any imput would be great guys and im sry if this isnt the right section i just figured id ask here instead of startting a new thread and having people say its jap crap

PS : does anyone know what the international taxes are by the way ???
