So I last night I came up to Helena Montana to see my family for the weekend and as soon as I hit town had my CEL pop up. So I am currently trying to figure it out.
I just pulled the plugs on cyl 2 & 4 and found this... ![]() They seem to be red, they are lfr6aix ngk plugs. my mods are: pe850s fp green fmic thats the majors. Tuned by John 2 Cobb Also if this is significant, I did run 100 octane a few weekends ago if that matters. Any one know why they would be red? They have about 8k miles on them.

What is the CEL?
Red plugs could indicate fuel additives. |

Do you use specifically use Chevron gasoline or fill up with whatever is available when you're empty? Red coloring is a sign of cheap fuel w/additives as sports wagon suggested. Not necessarily a concern, but the CEL is.

The cel is a misfire on cyl 2, also I always use shell 91 but up here its shell 93 and is what I last filled up on.

Also I must note after doing some driving this morning the cell will only come on at idle, if I am cruising down the interstate it will not come up but as soon as i have to stop at a light and have to idle for a minute or two it will come on.

Well, I'm definitely not a 'guru' but it could be coilpack related, maybe swap it to see if misfire follows to that cyl.

Yeah I got some fuel injector cleaner to throw in the tank to see if it helps.
Yeah thats what I thought to, I always keep an extra coilpack in my car when I travel, and it did not make a difference. Its also a brand new coil pack from subaru. |

That looks like it might be from race gas. Did you run Torco?
Im assuming all 4 plugs look the same. |

The race gas was bought @ a VP fuels station in Reno nevada. It was there streetblaze 100 octane which I now see is orange from the website..
* Color: Orange * Oxygenated: Yes * Motor Octane 96 * R+M/2: 100 * Specific Gravity: .746 at 60° F Yes all plugs are the same. |

well 15 minutes at idle no cel, that makes me feel better. I was super worried that the red plugs meant it was getting way hot. haha. thanks guys

Ok, so misfire from cyl 2 and 4 yet again.

Could be bad gas. Take off you oil fill cap with the car running a look for smoke out of the filler. You will have a puter of air, but smoke could mean ringlands.
A compression test would yeald more info. |

ya my guess would be leaded race gas or some other crap from your latest fill up? that would make sense since this just barely started happening and you just recently filled it with 100 |

Yes sir Quote:
Vp fuels street blaze 100 octane unleaded is what I put in the car. The car ran fine after that. I had put about 500 miles on the car after the 100 octane before this 600 mile journey. |

Well limped the car home (600 miles) and it idles like **** but the coolant and oil levels are the same exact as when I left this morning. I think I am going to do a compression check on it tonight.

So since I got home from this trip I just left the car sit since I was pissed off at it until yesterday.
I drove it out to a shop where we did a compression check on it, given the car was in limp mode and I could not go over 3k RPM's. Cyl 2 and 4 are 76 and 48. So now I am wondering why its dead @ 36k miles on the odometer. Before I was tuned I was running about 16 psi on a Vishnu tune and when I went to get tuned by Cobb he took it up to 19 psi, but we did run into problems on the dyno due to faulty injectors. I could probably put money on the fact it was never tuned right from the begining (Vishnu) which angers me. I never heard any knock but also I never logged any pulls which was dumb on my end. Now future plans are: Raw1 street series block grimmspeed EWG set up (fp green has a tendancy to creep) Maybe rebuild the heads and add some cams A considerate tune, maybe 300whp nothing more. I do not want to have to do this again. Blow through MAF Any one know what else I should get to help preserve my new engine from failure like this one did? My current mods are Fp green (stock inlet size) css fmic pe 850cc Perrin 3 port bcs Vishnu bellmouth to Taipan catless 3" exhaust APS dualport recirculating |

Vishnu is the reason your car is dead. That guy is an idiot when it comes to anything involving cars.
