Hard weekend for lots of guys and motors, that GTX turbo is a motor killer, big power, big distruction. Great thing is it will help further develop the EJ series motors. Great job going for it this weekend with big power! Going to be a great races to come with the big boys in the class / Subaru going head to head.

well it gives the ability to up the power and sustain it for sure...not sure its the killer per say, just means we need to adapt and adjust to new found pressures and levels the car now runs at consistently

Race motor is completely disassembled. The 2 other rods look just like this as well (Rod #3 is in two pieces from breaking/failing). If you look at the arrows you can see where the bends went from the pressure and ultimately the rods not being strong enough to take the power we are putting out.

If you look real closely you can see the lower end of the rod (Crank End) where it actually started to narrow from it getting stretched, the in the center you can see it bulged from that material shifting to the center line, then at the piston end of the rod its again bent and narrowed.

Bearings, other cylinder walls, heads, head gaskets, and crank are still all perfectly fine...bummer a part that was suppose to be able to take the power couldn't but we live and learn....and come back stronger, as this is an easy fix (aside from the trashed mess of a motor we have going on). But its nice to know it only came down to a failed component as we predicted, as opposed to other underlining issues or compromises in the setup.

we always pick our parts wisely and honestly I still like these rods. They just can't do the power we are at anymore.

These rods are the same ones we used all last year in our race motor and earlier this year. they work great for no more than 550whp....which we are no longer at anymore

Wait so your saying that the rod is not suppose to look like that

Got to admit as much as it sucks to blow stuff up, its fun to push products to there limit and really see what they are capable of.

So next year we can expect 850WHP?

yeah agreed.

These rods are still at top of my list for great rods given what they are (H-Beam), they aren't capable of the power level we are now at...its simple, we go to something I or A Beam from here on out. I will still use these rods and continue with them...just not in our race motor anymore, they worked great for 1.5 years at our old power levels, which is nothing shy of a lot, its just even more now...everything has its limits and we found them on this particular rod

Looks like it was aweful close to puking all 4 rods instead of just one. I guess the damage is done regardless huh?

Good luck the rest of the season...I'll be following you guys.

I don't think it would of to be honest. The only reason the one snapped is b/c after bending it hit the sleeve, which caused it to break off into pieces

NEW BLOG FROM COBB TUNING.

A brand-new motor, a rain-slick track, and rivals running quicker lap times are not the best elements to make for a successful racing weekend. The LIC Motorsports and their Subaru STi were facing an uphill battle for Global Time Attack’s 2011 Finals at Infineon Raceway, but with the hard work of the LIC Motorsports crew, and some help from COBB Tuning’s Gary Sheehan and Tim Bailey, everything came together perfectly. Not only did LIC Motorsports take home 1st Place, but they set a new class record utilizing an impressive chassis and AccessPORT Alpha Speed Density Tuning.

Adam and Noah Levy of LIC Motorsports needed a motor to match the chassis development from the previous seasons of racing. The motor build was completed using a sleeved block, pistons, bearings, a GTX turbo, and a higher capacity oil pan. LIC Motorsports also decided to eliminate the BPV to increase turbo and throttle input response. Everything was buttoned up only 10 hours before hitting the track. The outcome? “Power delivery is awesome!” Gary Sheehan was also impressed with.....READ MORE
