Default Full Size Spare anywhere down there?

Anyone carryin a full size spare in their Baja? And if it would fit where that little donut goes? Thinking about purchasing a full size spare 'cuz I don't wanna be loaded up with camping gear/passengers, blow a tire and have my only option be a skinny temp tire, especially if venturing off road. Pretty legitimate concern I think, lets hear your thoughts...

Yup, we are.

I got a pretty big puncture in one of the tires when taking my daughter to school one morning which motivated me, so I picked up a plain steel wheel from Tire Rack and had a take-off tire mounted on it.

The first time I used the cable to draw the tire up into the spare tire holder I had to climb under there and just gently pry open the tire holder bars on the edges just a tad.

And since then, I had to use it one time, and when I lowered the cable, the bars were holding the tire in place, so I had to give it a little kick for it to drop.

But no worries.

I could see a full size wheel and tire under there being a bit of a hindrance offroad. I didn't actually have to use mine for the first time until a week ago when I blew a tire. I didn't get a good look since I changed the tire in the dark, but I think it would decrease your departure angle a bit. When I take mine offroad, the places I tend to scrape are the rear tow hook and the bottom of the rear bumper, so I can only imagine what a big wheel/tire under there would be subjected to. If I were to go the full size spare route, for the offroad situation I'd either just stick it in the bed, or throw on a cargo basket like I've seen before and stick it up there.

On another note, I've been waiting over a week for my stupid Grabber AT2 to come in. I am not pleased with Big O right now

I also have one. I also had to bend the bars out a little, and it definitely decreases the departure angle a bit, but then again so does my xcceleration exhaust. Worth it, IMHO. def put it in the bed if doing some serious off-roading.

Hell, I don't think the wheel or rubber hangs down any lower than my Scoobie-Hitch... not that I off-road it really ever...

I'm thinking about purchasing the Yakima Loadwarrior for my Baja, I'll just throw the full sizer in that.. That'll look pretty badass too!

I have the load warrior as well......it's fantastic. I bought the light mounting kit for it. I mounted the activity lights to it which is great for when we go camping. Yakima also has a tire mounting kit, a shovel mounting kit and a full size jack mounting kit for thr load warrior!

Yeah, but I betcha it screws with highway mileage, if you care about such things. I know just removing the cross-bars from mine made a surprising difference in mileage.
