Default Removing radio trim in 08-09??

Anyone know how to remove the silver trim around the radio in an 08-09 STi without removing the whole dash?
I know it can be done but I'm sure there's a trick as far as where to pull, how to not scratch, etc.

The pieces and a lot tighter than previous models so any tips would be appreciated so I don't jack up the plastic. Thanks

I used radio removal tools. they are soft plastic so they didn't scratch the plastic. A wood skewer may also be able to assist in getting this off.

I used a small plastic wedge on the upper left corner of the radio trim. On mine the trim was slightly up where you could get something into there to pull it up. All you need to start it a little and should be able to pull it off. It just has push type clips that come out pretty easy.

Once you get it started does it pull straight out like most of the other pieces?

I took off 2 pieces to make it easier. My tools wouldnt fit between the dash and radio cover without mashing it. Open passenger side door and pop off side piece of dash. Unscrew the screw holding the silver piece that goes across and under the radio trim. Then slowly pop out that silver piece after taking out the screw and you get easy access to the radio, trim, and HVAC.

*edit* and yes the radio trim itself only has the pop out clips. No hidden screws or anything.

Its not hard. I don't understand why people keep having issues. Butter knifes etc are a fast way to scratch things up unless you are careful. I just use my fingers:

Short answer, no need to take any trim out other than the radio surround to get the stereo out. Check out that thread from the beginning, lots of great info.

You have to be very carefull, but when you get the trim removed all the way to the center dash, you should be able to work it out enough. Also if you have the 'manual' AC and air controls you won't be able to do it.
