Default help need info!

ok I've had my WRX for about 3 months now and I have some questions about it.

1. Can the WRX downshift on freeway? To get that extra boost of speed? and is it safe?
2. What are the long term risks if I'm running a 100% atmospheric BOV?
3. Do boost controllers work well? If so electronic or manual? What requirements do I need for my car?
4. Can you chirp a awd car?

well thats all I can think of now...anyways I love my car and I'm the fastest out of my friends who have 3 si's and a GSR.

1. Yes, as long as you don't downshift into the next gear's redline.

2. Some experience odd idle...If you have your car tuned on a dyno with an engine management system, you can elliminate any problems whatsoever...But lots of people have 100% atmosphere without trouble.

3. Very well. Electic is the way to go if you have the $$$. The EBC (electronic boost controller) should have everything you need to install it. You MUST have a boost gauge before you start tuning the boost.

4. Sometimes...depends on amount of power, road condition, etc...

well...
just the other day I was reading my owners maual...
do not excede 81ish in 3rd
fourth I couldn't tell you off the top of my head
if you revmatch when you downshift it wont be so hard on the clutch.
?chirp? maby in 1st gear if you don't trash the gear box in the process 2nd...good luck
a slam into 2nd causes a heavy bang no chirp

IMHO:

1.) Seems like a silly question to ask. Use common sense on this one. If your cruising 80mph in 5th, don't all of a sudden drop it to second gear. Down shifting is common, watch some WRC races
2.) Long term is that you won't gain much performance, you may actually loose performance. The stock bov is good for around 400 hp So leave the poor little guy alone
3.) Boost controllers work ok. Just be sure that you don't have full boost at partial throttle. If you are going to run a MBC, either keep it below 15.5psi, and even at 15.5, you should get a EGT gage to make sure your not cooking your cat.
4.) As it was already said from before, depends on the road conditions, but to do it on a dry road, you're gonna have to do a clutch dump I've chirped my rex with a 4500 clutch dump. Let me tell you, it's not worth chirping the tires seeing how doing repeated clutch dumps is going cost $$$ over the long run
