Default Intercooler Cooling...?

I am going to autocross this car for the first time in a couple weeks and am worried about heat soak on the intercooler. Any ideas or tricks you guys do to keep the temps down. I know there are water injection kits, but I was wondering if even just a spray bottle would help, (pop the hood and spray the intercooler with distilled water.)

Find a tuperware container about the size of the intercooler ..... use this to make a giant ice block ,and get a garden sprayer [lowes etc.] to spray water on the intercooler ,this will also help release the melting ice block from the intercooler when it's time to do your run .Keep the block on ice in a cooler and keep ice in the sprayer ,it sounds silly ,but it works .....good luck ..and have FUN .

FWIW:

I am designing a splitter for large TMIC's with better directional flow and also adding a H2O cooling system that should work quite a bit better than the stuff on the market. It is for auto-x or drag (for those who have a TMIC) where the thermal soak of grid kills us. It is looking good on paper, and I will start cutting tomorrow. I will be testing it over the next few weeks. Just putting it out there, maybe gauge some interest.

The ice and water works. It's illegal according to the SCCA rules, unless I somehow got that wrong. Perhaps that is only for national competition. Anyhow, water has it's largest heat wicking effect at evaporation.

I'm interested, but it would take me out of stock, which I plan to stick with for 2 years.

Yeah, I gave up and just went to FP. I am only auto-xing for a couple more years with this car, and then she gets the full track dress.

I couldn't find the ice on the intercooler topic in a quick perusal of the rule book just now, so maybe I never read it, but I could have sworn I saw it in there somewhere. Oh well.

I will probably post a thread up in Auto-x with pics of the setup once it is fully operational.

I am not certain of this. I thought I saw it in the rules at the beginning of the season, but perhaps I am wrong as I can't find it now.

dry ice and cool cans are illegal, using a water sprayer to spray down the IC and hot tires is not illegal

What others have said. Garden sprayer filled with water, or if you're lucky and run early water and ice in the sprayer. Keep an eye on your tire temps as well as that sprayer can be the difference between terminal understeer from greasy tires and good gripping tires.

I've even seen PC fans rigged up to run off the battery blowing air onto the IC. That with a water sprayer would be best, but for a regular autox any old garden sprayer will work.

An intercooler (at least for autocross) is essentially a heat sink. You cool it between runs. A garden sprayer and water ( I like to use distilled water) works great. Spray your tires if they get toohot too - double-duty garden sprayer. I believe it is forbidden by the rules to spray during a run.

I would be interested to see this as I got a custom FMIC that was SP legal but your idea sounds good too.
