Outback Sport Need help locating sensors.

Alright, need a bit of help locating two sensors. It's on a OBS with the 2.2l. The knock sensor and Idle control valve/sensor. They set off the CEL and the car failed emissions, my 60 days are almost up and I'll need to get it fixed. I know how to do most of my own stuff, but all of my previous cars were mid-eighties carbed GM V6 and V8's. Also does the O2 sensor on the header need to be heated to be removed? Thanks for the help.

The knock sensor is located on the top of the engine on the drivers side. It is black, round and has one bolt right through the center of it. It is buried deep below the egr valve. Try removing the bolt and clean the bottom of the sensor with a wire brush and try to get some sandpaper on the spot where it bolts on. I used a long pair of needlenose pliers to work the sandpaper on the spot. Then I put a little dielectric grease on the sensor and the spot where it bolts. Don't overtighten the bolt as It can break the sensor (assuming it's good now).

As for the Idle control valve all I can find in my manual is "ON throttle body assembly" At least it's a place to start.

The location for the knock sensor is correct. You can see it, but it's a little tight to get your hands on it.
The IAC is on the top of the intake, right between the throttle body & the "spider" of the intake.

Do some searching on cleaning the IAC before you mess with it.

What were the exact CEL's??
