Default 225 on 7" wide wheel

Hi, I have a set of the BBS Optional RK's for the 02-03 wrx. They're 17x7 and came with 215's but I'm hoping I can fit wider tires on there. Something like the sti potenza's.. Anyone know if I can fit a 225 or 235 on the 7" wide wheel without a problem? Thanks!

A 225 is acceptable and the widest recommended tire for a 7" wide wheel.

You can do 225/45. Sidewall will be a tad softer and buldge out more than a 215 (obviously).

I have a set of 225-45-17 all seasons that I use for my "winter" tire. I personally can't stand the size, I went with a great compound for my performance tire and went with 215-45-17. I find that I out-grip a lot of the 235's people are running at local auto-x, simply because I have a better compound. If it is grip you want get a really good compound and you won't miss the 10 mm of width. If it is the width you want then the 225 will fit the 7".

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.60 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.2.14320/554; U; en) Presto/2.2.0)

the 09 wrx comes with 225/45/17s on 17x7 wheels and it looks just fine. no bulging sidewall at all.

I'm guessing a 235 isn't recommended at all, then? (7" wheel)

Arr, I'm so torn between 225/45 and 235/45 with my 17x7's.

Do not be torn. 235 requires 7.5" wheel.

you wouldn't want a 235 on your 7... a 225 already gets a little sloppy with a 7" wheel

Most people for 235 are going to run 235/40/17 which is not only wider but also drops the sidewall. These factors combine mean even a 17x7.5" rim is too narrow, you need 17x8".

Agreed.

OP, there's nothing stopping you from blasting a 235 on a 7" wheel. In that sense, it'll fit. But from a performance standpoint, it's not the best bet (on my track car, for instance, which is not a Subaru, I run only a 205 on a 15x7). The car will feel much more vague and uncommunicative.
