Default AC compressor leak!

My 03 wrx has 96k miles. My AC died a few months back, and I didnt bother messing with it til yesterday. The compressor wouldnt turn on so i assumed it was something mechanical and put it off, til i read that low refrigerant can keep the compressor from turning on.

I took it to a shop, where they hooked up the gauges and it read zero. So i knew I had a leak, and the shop put in dye and was going to refill with refrigerant but the leak quickly showed itself around the compressor. It appears to leak where both hi and low lines connect to compressor.

Is it possible to just replace the seals?, and where could i get them?

If not, and i need a new compressor, can i get a rebuilt one?

Other than the mechanical work to install it, what needs to be done to refill the system? Because it was empty for so long, is there other stuff to worry about? (dryer?)

thanks

Its just the O rings.. They will vaccum it down, to remove air and moisture, and then charge it up.. It never hurts to change the dryer.

Thanks for the quick reply. Well I would be doing the work myself, so where would i purchase the 0-rings? Looking on subaruparts.com now..

And i was told the dryer and condenser is one piece on my car. Not sure if thats true, but i wouldnt wanna dish out $300 for both if i dont need to so is there any way to know if its necessary to replace? .

Lastly, what would be a reasonable amount to pay a shop to vacuum and charge the system?

You can buy the dryer alone. I did this on my 2002 WRX the exact same thing. The o-rings on the Hi and Lo side from the compressor where changed out.
