so tonight going home from work it started raining really bad when i turned on to my street it was completely flooded i didnt think it was THAT deep but was wrong
the water came up to my headlights and as soonas that happend my oil pressure light came on so i pulled into my drive way and shut the car off checked the air filter(short ram intake) a little wet on the outside of the filter but inside was fine checked the dip stick too see if i was low on oil or if some how water go inside i started the car back up and it started right away with no hesitation at all, light was still on. i disconnected the batterie to try to reset everthing but the light is still on...what else could be causing the light to be on? could water of gotten into the oil pressure gauge gotten wet? and is screwing with it?![]()

/\++ I had the same problem once. Sender got wet and shorted. You'll notice if you turn the engine off and then key back on the light will be brighter as it can make a 'real' connection with less voltage drop since it is actually seeing no oil pressure with the engine off.

The oil light is an LED rather than a conventional bulb, and it takes only a very small current to make it visibly illuminate. Most likely some water from the puddle got on the sensor and wiring, and since that water is far from pure it's conductive enough to allow some current to flow and turn the light on. If this is the case it should go out once it dries, although it's possible that enough conductive residue could remain to keep it lit.
And disconnecting the battery will have no effect on what that light does. |

If it is an LED how is it possible that it was slightly dim and then brighter without the presence of actual oil pressure in my case?

...For future reference, I would NEVER drive through water that is up to the headlights.
