So I have some friends who are letting my wife and I go to their log cabin slope side at Winter Park for a week. We are trying to decide what to get them but we are lost. They make well into the millions of dollars a year range and compared to what we can get them of a gift, we feel lost and inadequate. haha.

They like wine so the best we can think of is $100 to the wine store they go to. Thoughts? advice?

Joe

Instead of the credit at the store, I'd try to put some effort into finding a $100 bottle of wine for them.

Give them a home invasion and armed robbery. Then you'll have enough money to buy them anything you want.

thought of that, but it seems like wine is so selective I think letting them pick it out might be safer, but I like where you are going with it.

Framed pctures of the OWS, never know how they will take it. "Oh no, they are comunists" or "Look they sent us pictures of ineffective hippies "

Or a decent Lacrosse or Montblanc pen, or if a fan of scotch some JW Blue or a better singlemalt.

Something personal.

Example: We did a sailboat race from Marina Del Rey, California, to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. We won it all: 1st to finish, 1st in class, and 1st over-all corrected time.

I bought a quality sailing/rigging knife and had it engraved with the name and date of the event on one side of the handle and with the boat's name and "Clean Sweep" on the other. Then I hand-spliced on a Spectra lanyard.

12 years later the owner still comes up to me with a huge grin and tells me how the knife means more to him than the actual trophies he won for that event.

determine what their hobbies are and buy them something related and of quality. if all they care about is wine, buy them a nice bottle of wine.

alternatively- commission one of the guys from the woodworking thread to make them something unique and handmade. can't go wrong.

I can't imagine a bottle in that range is ever going to be something not enjoyable for them. Maybe they try something they haven't yet and learn they like it.

Wait a minute, you're into photography, IIRC. Take an awesome shot of Winter Park, or maybe of the cabin itself, frame it and hang it in the cabin...THAT's awesome.

As a sailor I can see this^^ as pretty awesome, but it does require winning a regatta to be effective.

It's a cabin in the mountains.

I'm guessing there's some sort of fireplace thing going on, right?

Get the carrier embroidered with a "Thank You from the HpiRallys, October, 2011"

Have the ax handle engraved likewise.

Also, leave it spotlessly clean after your stay.

This is a good idea. Maybe a few portraits of the area and cabin and hang them.
