Default Gravel = AWD fun

Was out at Shoreline park in Mountain View with the wife this afternoon...and lo and behold as we're leaving...one of the HUGE gravel parking lots for the Amplitheatre was wide open and empty.

Since I'm a big proponent of not driving like an ass out on public streets...I was tempted to go in and have some totally safe AWD fun. I was astonished when the wife was like..."YAAAAAH let's go slide!"

Anyway...I'm all pumped because I had a good time and I think I learned a bit more about AWD handling on slick surfaces. I'm in awe of how sideways you can get one of these cars and then coerce it back straight. I might go back later this afternoon!

Such a nice day too!!

I've discovered how terrific our Subies are on dirt on a few unpaved backwoods roads. It's really amazing how easily they can drift and then straighten out again like it was no big thing. As much fun as Subies are on pavement, I think they're even more fun on slippy stuff.

Dang! I was there this afternoon with my girlfriend. Too bad I didn't take a look at the parking lot on the way out.

Are there any other nice (read: isolated, empty) gravel or dirt areas around the peninsula for this kind of fun?

I have to admit I am luck for I live off of montebello road, back near steven's creek resivor. Its nice and windy. But always some dam bicyclist is in the way. you guys should run up montebello road. If you do, stop buy I work at Picchetti winery.

Id love a play in the dirt meet. Im always looking for a good place to slide around.

I currently have prettly worn re92 and in grass they get almost zero traction. It makes it so fun, I can tear through a feild and not leave any tire tracks.

It would be nice to have a dirt rally cross, especially a totally flat one that was slightly wet. Can you imagine all the camero and such? They wouldnt even be able to compete. Even a "bad" driver in a subaru awd could easily take the track while a RWD vehicle would take a good amount of skill.
