Rally Stuff ITN 2009 Road Rally Schedule

ITN ROAD RALLY REMINDER

TWO LANE BLACKTOP

6 hour Monte Carlo Road Rally

Saturday, Sept. 12

Starts at Marie Callender’s at Magic Mountain, just off I-5

Registration 9 - 11am

Orientation 11 - 12 noon

First Car out 1:01 pm

First Car to Finish 7:30pm (approx.)

Finish is at Don Cuco’s on Crown Valley Rd., just of CA SR 14 freeway.

Route Instructions and Official Maps will be posted online not later than 7pm Friday 9/11, on itnrally.org and on rallyroutes.com. Print out maps in 8.5x11 and then blow up on a copier to 11x17. Also, 11x17 maps will be available at registration.

This course is a collection of the best driving roads in Los Angeles County. Mountains and valleys, canyons and deserts, forests and streams... We think you’ll like it. Although some areas are near the Station Fire’s north edge, we think that the rally will be fine regardless.

The rally is just about 225 miles in length, which we hope will allow many entrants to complete the course on one tank of gas, although there is a break included during the event, just in case. Also, if you are a first time entrant, or if you bring a first timer with you, the entry fee is only $10. Please check our website at http://itnrally.org for more information, or call 310 350 1360 with any questions.

We sincerely hope you will come run this event. It’s the last rally we have before Stellar Luminescence runs from Santa Barbara to Las Vegas on Nov. 20 and 21. Regardless of what happens, you should really BE THERE!

Our very sincere thanks for your continued support.

November 20 - 21, 2009
INTO THE NIGHT 2009 presents STELLAR LUMINESCENCE
a 12 - 14 hour Monte Carlo style navigational Road Rally
Start Santa Barbara. Finish Las Vegas.
Entry Fee is $375 per car, includes rally, awards banquet, and T-shirts for 2.
SPECIAL DISCOUNT -- enter by March 28, 2009 and get a $100 discount on SL.
You pay only $275 for Stellar Luminescence, PLUS you get to enter all 4 of the other ITN rallies in 2009
for only a $20 registration fee per rally.
You can pay by check or with a major credit card.
Click here for Entry Form in pdf. Print it and complete it.
Please mail completed forms with payment to PO Box 642261, L.A., CA 90064.
Entries are guaranteed. If for any reason Stellar Luminescence is cancelled, prepaid entries will receive a full refund.
If you run all 5 rallies, Experts will save a total of $240, other classes save a total of $210.
There will be special trophies at the end of the year for the best overall driver and navigator in each class based on your best 4 out of the 5 rallies. To be eligible for the year-end awards, you must run checkout or work at least one event.

I'm interested. I don't have a co-driver though.

I did the Pine Barrens Express twice in NJ, a 120-mile TSD held by NJ SCCA. Does this still classify me as a novice at ITN?

yes. I think as long as you haven't run an ITN event you are classed as a novice.

Logic Puzzles to improve your Monte Map solving skills

www.parade.com/numbrix

For the last few months Marilyn vos Savant has published a Numbrix puzzle in Parade magazine that comes in most Sunday papers, as well a daily at the web site. These puzzles are 9x9 grids that you fill in a number per square 1-81. Some spaces are already filled and the deductive reasoning process is very similar to how the experts work out the route on ITN style Pan Am (i.e. Known True Time Map Monte Carlos). If you can't imediately figure out where 1 is, try starting at 81 and working backwards. Can't find 81, try starting in the middle and work outwards. That's how when novices can't figure out the location of CP 1, the experts know because, they saw there was a definitive location for CP 5, which told them where CP 4 had to be, which let them to CP 3, etc.
So give it a try and see if those map solutions don't come easier when the rallyes start in March.
