Default Why so much hate for the 09 WRX?

I've been reading these forums for awhile now and it seems like a day doesn't go by without someone bashing the 09 WRX. It seems to me, that for what you get, there isn't much of a better bang for your buck out there. I understand the engine failure issue caused some controversy, but that has since been rectified. So why all the hate for this car?

Before I even knew I was going to buy a Subaru, I went to the dealer and asked to check out an STI.....he showed me a brand new '09.

I was like, where is the other one, the sedan style." He laughed and said, "This is it. They don't make that anymore."

I have to admit, I was bummed.

Maybe it's the new body style? It's actually grown on me now.

It's not a bad car. I don't think anyone can say it doesn't perform.

But it's ugly, no sedan, HEAVEN forbid subaru makes another coupe, and last but not least, it's ugly.

For a wagon, it doesn't look half bad, i see what they were going for. From the rear though, it looks like a Matrix.

When done correctly, they actually look half decent, but that takes $$$$$ and well, IMO it still isn't as nice as a really well done 07 or even a 03.

I think they look great, but tinting the rear taillights red with the center part clear is how it should have came from the factory.

265hp with factory warranty.

It's just different. People are getting used to them. It's not like any Subarus are going to wind up at MOMA. Find the beautiful Subarus in this picture....

We are a sedan cult, (we love our TS/Outback brothers and sisters too ), and the design of the car really looks like the bastard child of an 09 Civic SI and a 2008 Lexus RX-400h suv. We want our car to be original. Not some carbon copy of other vehicles.

To each his own:
It's like the neighbors... they think your kid is butt ugly but they obviously haven't take a step back to look at their own. Done and Done. I think a lot of people are just jealous, bitter and everything in between. Same thing when it comes to choosing a president. We saw how that turned out last year

People can easily say: "Hey. That's just not my taste" but many decide to take it a step further and bash on something they never even seen before except for pictures on the inner'net and videos on the "youtube"

Maybe I do it backwards, but I tend to look at a cars ability and then find the "beauty" in it. The more I drive my 09 the more I find myself checking it out as I walk away from it.

Thumbs down

Its because the Impreza has lost its identity as a limited run quirky cult car and has now become mainstream in its looks.

This dicussion has been brought up at least 1000 times on NASIOC too...

Cue the overprotective and defesive 08-09 owners in 5, 4, 3, ....

Bingo.

Admittedly, when the '09s first came out, I wasn't thrilled with it. The previous bodystyle is almost iconic. Just takes time to adjust I s'pose..

How can you be possibly be interested in buying a new STI and not even know they stopped making it in sedan form back in '07?

Assume you're talking about the STI even though the thread is about the '09 WRX, which definitely has a sedan.

<----Jealous

I still don't really dig the looks, but for the power they have I definitely respect them. I also think they can be made to look really sick (have seen a few on here). I think It will just take time for some people to get used to.

Because this is NASIOC and the majority here hate anything they dont have. They hated the bugeye, hated the 04-05, hated the 06-07. And now its the 08-09's turn. I think its absolutely ridiculous.

I say, WGAF!!!!!!!!!!???

It's a personal preference thing.....I finally got one and I freaking love it. Bone stock and it is definately ready to rip. I used to be in love with the sedan's until they rolled this body style out. I definately don't think the 09 WRX Sedans look as good as their predecessors, but the 5 dr looks better than ever to me. That's why I went for that one. Much love for all the Subbie owners......we need less Subbie on Subbie crime, we've got plenty of other haters out there to deal with. Did I mention this new model is ready to rip.....just ask the 350 Z that couldn't run away from me tho other day.....too much fun. Enjoy the ride peeps. By the way, I dealt with the "engine" issue; taken care of well and running great. LAter.

I don't think people are jealous, I think they have nothing better to do than to complain about something they have no control over. I will admit that I did not the body style of the current generation of the WRX when it was released. Then I started to see a few on the streets and the look started to grow on me. I ended up buying one a couple of months ago and while it isn't the best looking car on the road, it isn't that ugly. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be, hell, that is hard to say. Anything from the bugeye on up to 2005 makes me smile when I see one.
