having some problems with my monitor...it seems like its trying to come on and the little light keeps flashing...after it finally came on the color red seems to be missing

i turned the monitor on its side to remove the cable from the pc to the monitor...did i maybe hit something to make the red go away

no problems with this thing until last firday...when the problem started happening...then happened again on sunday...and again today...the monitor is a hanns-g hx 191

You turned the monitor on its side?? All the red drained out through the cable. Staples has replacement cartridges.

the oxygen rich blood traveling from your lungs to the rest of your body is red.

You're using a VGA cable, or DVI/HDMI?

I assume VGA.

Either the cable is bad or the connector on the monitor. This happens with VGA monitors, both LCD and CRT. A solder joint or something breaks down after a while.

There's a Dell 19" LCD at work doing the same thing, we were laughing at the guy today.

My monitor at work has actually had a green tint to it at times lately. I just smack it around a bit and it goes back to normal.

Ya got a spare videocard that you can try? Or a spare video cable?

My guess is that one of those 2 is on it's way out. Cables tend to last forever, but it does sound like in this particular case it's at fault.

Well if it's back - and stays back - then don't worry about it.
But if it comes and goes, then some connection is loose. Be it from the videocard, the cable, or even the connector on the back of the monitor. Is the cable screwed in nice and tight? (you know, using those thumbscrews that the cable has)

very cool man...and on the last part of your post...yes it is tight using the screws that came with the cable...even though its tight i could still move the connector somewhat...it fixed the problem...for now

then DON'T MOVE IT! You might have a loose connection within the monitor itself, which would be a bigger issue to fix, so as long as it works now, screw it - leave it alone!

When these go, they tend to gain and lose connectivity based on heat.
