Default 02 wrx or 05 wrx Engine swap

I'm looking to do a swap in my 98 Forester and i'm currently looking at 2 motors. I want to know which one if any has an advantage or disadvantage in the swap. I'm just really getting my feet wet in Subaru's. I have two M3 and wanted to try something different. The Forester has and automatic trans for now. I just want to get the forester running before winter when I park the M3's.

'05 is newer, it will have shimless buckets, it will survive maybe... you will spend up to $5000.

Well I found an 05 with 54k for $2300 which included ecu and harness, fuel pump. Can I get by with just using the engine harness or would I have to do some merging of harnesses.?

Well I was reading some other posts and read that with the 05 wrx motor the ecu has the immobilizer built in and if you don't have the doner car to get everything out it can be a real pain. I also read that the 04 ecu can be used as well. I'm just looking to drop this 05 motor in with the least hicups.
Another concern is the engine harness, I was hoping it will be a plug and play, but reading it seems it's not so. There's so many different concepts out there.
