Default Rant of the day

So as some of you may or may not know, I have a second job at Taco Bell. Recently I've been working the drive-thru, and I've been getting a lot of people requesting military discounts.

Now, being in the military myself, I appreciate any discount I can get...especially military discounts. My problem is the dependents coming through and getting military discounts because their parents are in the military. The spouse thing doesn't bother me because I know what my wife goes through when I'm deployed constantly, and I'm sure other spouses have it worse. They should be able to get a discount just for the stress and things they have to handle while their spouse is gone.

I just don't think some punk ass military brat should be able to get a military discount because their parent is military.

That's just me.

I agree. When my dad served tho i saw it happen a lot. I never used it tho, since it wasn't that big a deal to me since some folks will argue it with you. I think that it should be spouses and active serving, not dependents.

dude the discount is because military families aren't loaded, you yourself are working a second job for extra cash. Think if you had 2 or 3 kids, money would be alot tighter, and i'm sure you'd encourage your kids to take evry discount, coupon, freebie or whatever if it was offered. Its a simple way for non military families and business's to say thankyou

I tend to agree with Qwik on this one.

The discount is for the family, namely those bringing home the bacon and providing shelter. This would mena the enlisted and their spouse. The children receive the discount WHEN with the parents. I tend to think of military discounts similarly (and just bear with me) as Senior citizen discounts, or SCCA discounts, or "buddy discounts". You CAN and WILL get a discount when you are with that person, but you cant use your dads AARP card for free ice cream, or get Randal's expeditor discount without going through him. Alaska, and perhaps these days most of the US, is filled with brattish children that have come to expect special treatment or some sort of preferential treatment because they go to south, or daddy works for BP. To use (and abuse) discounts because your parents are enlisted is wrong. If they want the discount, go with their other parent, or enlist themselves, stop being military brats.

As for families not being loaded..... look around son.. the whole of the US is in a depression, and unless you are fortunate enough to be in the higher ranks of a company, or have ventured out on your own and have "made it", then odds are you are not loaded. Even non military families are having to resort to second jobs and one car.

The whole family should get the discount. When daddy or mommy is deployed, kids suffer too as well as the every 3 to 4 years moving around. Military really dont make much money. The only things we got going for us is medical/dental benefits and a steady paycheck. I disagree with you on this Rusty.

Tru enough kids nowadays are little pricks they still should be entitled. Plus if they arent in school past the age of 18 they loose all entitlements while the parent who is still in can still get their discount at Taco Bell.

My dad's job moved us all over 3 or 4 years my whole life too. I didn't get any discount. Only new friends every time I moved.

The longest time I spent in one place was when I joined the Air Force and got stationed in Kansas.

I still use my military discount, and I'm retired, would you refuse me a discount because I have long hair and no longer have active duty id?(I have a blue ID card)
and if I had kids I would encourage them to use the military discount that I have earned for my family, 10% isn't really that huge of a discount.

well I don't believe in a senior discount, but so for a military discount and under 25 discount. Since we get raped on insurance we should get breaks on everything else.

I guarantee my kids go through just as much stress as your wife does, just a different kind. Military benefits should extend to the whole family regardless! and I thank god I live in a place that supports our military the way Anchorage does.

This really shouldn't be up for debate. Yea there are punks out there who like to use people especially their parents, but I know not all are like that. My husband used his card for things back when he was in high school and he's far from your average engine revving, don't give a care about no one punk. His parents were in the military for a very long time and I think they earned that for their kids. It would be like saying someone shouldn't get the money that is left over from their parents dying or from life insurance. I understand why it would frustrate you because you are military, but there is exceptions in "any" situation, military or not.

I wanna play.

Being a military brat for all 18 short years of my life. I have sacraficed a lot for the military just as my father has. I've gone to 8 different schools I've had to get up and leave on 4 months notice and it's stressful. Being the new kid your junior year in highschool sucks and there were days I absolutely hated going to school. And when my dad deployed I had to be the man of the house and take care of the house. Military brats do go through a lot more then most people think. Now until I moved up here I had no idea about military discounts and you better believe I use them every where I can. I along with my father, mother, and two brothers have earned it.

Sadly no. I really wanted to go, but I have a really messed up work schedule. So if I don't hear about something till to late I can't get days off. Though I was on the last Seward trip.

Also I really don't have my evo anymore. Though working on finding a 7 or a 6.5. I found a 6.5 in SoCal, but wasn't able to get it in time. Now its just the hubbies car, a jeep and an old-school Taurus SHO.

Well I certainly think the no money excuse should not be used. Cause when I was growing up, you ate what was on the table. Thats the way working families are. We went to taco bell once in a blue moon, thats all my family could afford at the time.

But I do think that the family should recieve the discount, nothing wrong with showing appreciation to families of our soldiers.

LOL, sounds good. To boomer though, I bet that had to be rough. Being the new kid is definitely a pain. For that you deserve the discounts until it ends.

it was bad enough moving sophmore year, but junior year or senior year would be rough. then again you could be military and end up in Kansas
