Default help with whine

my 1999 jdm sti has started making a whining noise. it only happens when the car is warmed up and ive been doing some spirited driving for a while. the noise only occurs when im turning the wheel and the pitch of the whine changes with rpm. Im thinking power steering pump but all the threads about whining noises on here happen when its cold and dont seem to be steering angle related.

Anyone have any suggestions?

have you checked your power steering fluid reservoir? Chances are you just need to put some power steering fluid in.

had a quick look at the belt. it still seems to be in very good condition and seems to be nice and tight, not too tight but not loose.
I also got a CEL this evening. When I started the car up the CEL was on for about 3 seconds then went off. it came on again when i was at a steady 80km/h for a second then came on again about 10 seconds later for about 10 seconds then went off. The car didnt seem to behave any differently when it came on.
I found too that when i was mid corner in gear the whine was there and would become louder and higher with more revs but completely disappeared if i put it in nuetral mid corner.

Is there any way to check my CEL or do i need an obd-ii machine? my car is a jdm 1999 version 5 sti

Found a way to check my fault codes. It's putting out code 22 which looks like knock sensor. Are they expensive to replace?

About $100. Takes about 15 minutes to replace but you've got to pull off the intercooler.

took the car out last night for a test run. tried cornering quite quickly to load up the steering. at first i kept the revs low but cornered hard, no noise. As soon as i reved it out to near redline at full boost though the very next corner had the whine noise and it continued as long as i kept the revs and boost up between corners. after letting the car idle for a while or just driving sedately the noise goes away.
A buddy of mine came with me in his car which has a supercharger and it sounds just like that.

Im at a loss as to what could be causing it
